Ramo335i's E92 Change Log

Hi All,

I’ve resisted the urge long enough and it’s time to start making some changes to my 2011 335i E92 M-sport N55 DCT. I bought the car in December 2015 with ~54,xxx km, previous owner treated the car well, used it as a daily to and from work mainly driving it on the freeway and always serviced with BMW.

Since purchasing the car it’s now at ~80,xxx km and I’ve done some preventative maintenance and replaced some of the common faults these cars are prone to – other than that, the car is pretty much bone stock.

My goals are not as extreme as some of the great machines I’ve seen on here, I’m just aiming for some mild performance and handling gains as well as some aesthetic improvements – but who knows… this is always a slippery slope. I’m not very DIY savvy, or heavily experienced with tuning – but I’m here to learn; my last car was a mk5 GTI, which I did the basics (CAI, FMIC, downpipes, tune, springs etc).

Maintenance:
-Water pump
-BMW expansion tank
-BMS charge pipe
-Walnut blast
-Transmission service (upcoming)

Mods:
-BMS CAI
-Ceramic break pads

Future:
-New rubber, getting rid of the RFT’s
-313M curb rash repair and respray (gunmetal grey)
-Calliper respray (M2 Blue)
-Suspension: Koni yellow/H&R sport

Hey Ramo
Great to see you doing a few upgrades
Performance and handling are good places to start... best bang for buck will be an engine tune
Where r you based??

Thanks mate, plan is to get MHD as soon as i've sorted out new tyres and suspension... I'm in Perth and it's miserable right now, no sense in unlocking more power without being able to use any of it!

Regarding suspension and this goes out to all those who have got advice (even though this has been done to death) - I've decided to go Koni yellow + H&R sport...

Reasoning - Sport springs give a decent drop, without making the car a battle for driveways/speed humps etc. I don't track the car (might one day but it'll be a one off or rare event type thing). Once I dial in the damper settings, I probably won't mess around with it again. Does this make sound logic or is there something i'm missing that would drive you down the CO's path?

Cheers,
Omar

The koni yellow and M sport springs ride great. If you want it lower I'd prefer eibach springs over H&R's personally..

Alternatively buy some coilovers, so you can set ride height to the height you want (if you get springs and scrape on your driveway your stuffed so you have to buy more springs and pay to change them..)

Now how about posting some pics up of your car?!?!

Skip the BMS intake, it’s a waste of money.

On a stock car it’s going to do nothing for you and you are meant to get a for the MAF when changing the intake anyway.

You have the same car I do, 2011 335i e92 N55

You raise a good point, but to go coilovers i'd def go the ST XA - that way i don't sacrifice too much comfort for being ridiculously low!

What sucks is new import tax laws are going to make it an extra 1-300 to order anything from that site or ECS...

and I'll post a pic when i get home tonight!

Haha yeh... i've seen this car on the forum here and there :P pretty much one of the reasons i got sold on the koni/H&R set up! Kudos on the progress!

I already got it about a yr ago... after my charge pipe cracked, replaced it with the BMS charge pipe and thought meh i'll get the intake too. Totally agree, does nothing really - it sounds great when you are giving it some, but i'm not a huge fan of the sound when you are babying the car, it's got like a low tone/deep whirl...

Hi, nice to see a new member in Perth
I got Bilstein B14 from UK $1200ish.
DIY installed by hiring a hoist.

Where did you get the walnut blast in Perth? How much did you pay?

I have got a brand new BMW OE set of interior floor Matt btw.

The H&R springs are Veeeery Low IMHO, I've been driving on them for a while and as soon as I get done fixing my other car the M Sport springs are going back in, the e92 looks awesome on the H&R springs, but scrapes on lots of speed bumps and driveways

If you don't want to crawl through carparks you'll need slightly higher springs or the coilovers would be good so you can adjust to your liking

Once I swap the springs my H&R springs will be up for sale

Hey mate, got it done at PACE i think it was ~5/600. Photos below of the deposits and cleaning... this was done at ~70K so might give people and idea of what they would see/when they would do theirs.

Update: Had the rims repaired - painted Shadow Chrome. Very happy with the colour, looks like graphite from an angle but when the light hits the rim the silver really pops out.

New shoes too... Michelin Pilot Sport 4s

Alliance - they did a great job, and very reasonably priced. I originally went for an OEM look but getting a clear coat on aluminium was a pain, it kept bubbling - which google says it's due to the aluminium oxidising...

I’m selling my 1M front bumper and carbon lip.

The car is for sale but not as eager to get rid of it, I’d prefer to pay off more or all of the loan I have on it first.
