If memory serves there is plenty of material on the mating plate on the cylindehead the Valvetronic motor mounts to to drill the next size up.

Use heavy grease on the drill bit and tap to collect any chips that come out. Stuff a shop towel behind the plate to catch anything that the grease may not pick up.

Or if you are concerned that you don't have the skill set for such work, have the car towed to a mechanic who can do such work. It will be far cheaper to have a shop do a heilcoil insert than to replace the head if you botch the repair. I doubt there is any tolerance for the valvetronic motor to not be correctly aligned to the cylinderhead.

My 2 cents.

I would be worried that an M8 bolt won't fit through the motor. Then you've got one more thing to dril out, and you end up with a "custom" part.

If you're drilling and tapping, may as well just do it with a helicoil and use the original m6 bolt.

otherwise I agree completely with your process. grease to catch the bits, shop towels/rags everywhere.

No, I do agree a helicolil is the best method, but my response was based on the OP's reluctance to try a helicoil. Hell, if it was my car (and it wouldn't be - I learned long ago how to stop stripping bolts and threaded holes ) I'd first try to chase the threads, but they do seem toast by now.

Either method is far advanced from a novice-level skill set, especially if it is something as critical as a cylinderhead.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Did you pull the motor in using the 4mm allen socket to turn the shaft or try to pull the motor in using the bolts?

I used allen wrench to retract it and then pushed the motor in, held it in and put 3rd bolt in. then pushed in the motor in, and put 2 other bolts.

This was my 3rd time doing this job.

If i am understanding your method right, you were holding the motor against the spring pressure of the eccentric shaft. That makes it very difficult

Sorry for your situation but i don't have any sane advice to get you out of trouble. Try a few thread experts for their opinion

Just bring this thread to conclusion:

I ended up doing a heilcoil insert. It was nerve-racking putting a drill bit into that hole at first. Looking back at the job, it was a breeze.

The reason why my threads stripped was that my bolts were m6x10 instead of m6x16. No clue how I ended up with smaller bolts, but it did happen. I cleaned deeper threads and everything bolted up really nicely.

Another takeaway from this, was how soft the engine material is. Drill bit had no trouble whatsoever. It was too easy.

Good job my dude, glad to hear it worked out. That stuff is scary to do in the moment but is always easy looking back at it.

What was the pitch for the bolt/helicoil?

I don't know what you mean by this.

Bolt is m6, so any m6 helicoil should work.

Be nice! Sensitive hearts
I'm glad you fixed it! Sorry you had to touch that VC 2x in such a short amount of time! Bless.
