I have a 2006 E91 and had symptoms of hesitation when accelerating first on sharp 90 degree turns then at highway speeds and eventually in 2nd gear and above. After 4 months of this the ABS, 4x4, DSC lights come on regularly after starting to drive.
I changed the actuator motor and that did not fix it. Took apart the original motor and yes, the gears are all metal and aren't worn out. Erased all the error codes and tried to run the VTG calibration which gives 54C4 calibration faulty and 54C6 oil wear error codes. There's also a 'status of classification resistor' message showing as 'Invalid'. The resistor was reused from the original actuator. Any advice why the VTG isn't calibrating? The 3 lights all come on now after the car is started. |

Well, I brought it to a mechanic and he suspected it's the transfer case that needs to be rebuilt.
Apparently my service guys never changed the TC fluid affter 160.000miles |

I took mine in for those errors and after replacing the brakes and tires it is still on. 4x4, ABS and Cruise is disabled and it is only in rear wheel drive. I have read quite a bit that replacing the actuator motor fixes it. The mechanic says that is the transfer case. I just wanted to check that is what your's was doing and fixed it once you replaced it.

So about a year ago my dad gave me his old BMW E92 328xi coupe and got himself a new one, i've been on this site since i got the car, and have been maintinng it decently and doing minor tweeaks here and there two weeks ago i kept getting the AWD ABS 4X4 (Red BRAKE) lights and tried mino things ive read on here, however my machine came in today and i was able to plug it in and got these codes, what is my first step how can i fix it? i belive i need a new transfercase, because i've already put in new camshaft sensors, and cleaned and Vano's and next week im going to replace my spark plugs and coils they come in tomorrow but with work and class i can't do it till next week becasue i read somewhere to replace them at 100K miles well i currently have 92K miles on it when he gave it to me it had 78K and no problems so this is the first major thing i've had here are the readings.
Dynamische Stabilitaets Kontrolle / DSC Fault Code: 005F39 Fault Explanation: istribution transmission ECU: VG - clutch position unknown. / Distribution transmission ECU: clutch position unknown. / Distribution transmission ECU: VG Disorder - clutch position unknown --- (DSC: Transfer Case: internal) / Distribution transmission ECU: VG clutch defective - clutch position unknown Then i also got AWD - CC - ID 370 i tried unpluging fuse F20 for the DSC but it still came on the lights, it's weird tho casue when i went to read the car i put it on (On Mode) pushed the buttton without holding brake, and the Reader said car didn't have any fualt codes, it only picks up the codes when the ignition is actually on. Thanks again guys for all the help if there's anyhing that i missed please let me know. So as I don't to try and fix my problem today I added new spark plugs, and coils, I also tested my transfer case actuator with the electric red and black thingys (sorry I forget what that's called) and it read 1 and no other numbers which from the site I was on says it's not faulty so now back to the drawing board. 😪 |

I hate to revive an old thread, but I am having a similar issue, I replaced the actuator motor when i bought the car about 15-20k ago and recently had my t case fluid changed less than 1k ago as I was getting a shudder, after some very spirited driving I blew the o-ring on my coolant bleeder screw and had the trifecta lights come back on shortly after seeing the low coolant light, all in the same drive( not sure if it relates but I figured I’d include it), after pulling codes I get;
5463 fracture mechanics 5F3A transfer case EGU: VG fault - clutch is in open position- RWD! The next morning: 5F39 transfer case EGU: VG Malfunction-clutch position unknown I have yet to get under the car due to weather conditions, but how can I tell the difference between 1) a bad t case motor 2) a bad sensor? Thank you in advance |

Replace TC Actuator - must switch off terminal 15 for VTG reset
Just replaced TC actuator with a new one (not Germany built). Codes 5F3A, 5463, 5F39. My Foxwell 510 says: must first switch off terminal 15, then replace the actuator, then switch on terminal 15 for VTG reset.
Where is Terminal 15, please ! |

Coding for replaced transfer case actuator motor?
I am in the same boat. I replaced the worn gear in the actuator motor and reinstalled, but the 4x4 light is still on. Do I have to take it to a shop to get coded to accept this, or is there a workaround that doesn't require an expensive coder?
