Want to start modding. Where should I start? '12 335i xdrive e92

As the title states I have a completely stock 335i xdrive. Love the car but would like to get into modding since I have some money to spend. I am so overwhelmed at where to start. I live in Boise Idaho and we do have E85.

I know that I would be tuning using MHD. I am looking for around 360-380 WHP as I think that is a good goal for the N55. I do have to smog here in ADA county so I think that Catless DP's would be out of the question. Should I run catted DP's instead? Would and intercooler be worth it so I could go stage 2? What about intake mods? As you can see im somewhat of a noob to this kind of thing and need some general help.
Thanks!

N55 so just 1 DP and turbo. Get MHD first of all. If it is a auto, then get xHP also. FMIC and catted DP would be the next options. Do your research on the DP to make sure it will pass emissions, not all of them do even with a cat. At that point on E85 you are going to be maxing out the stock turbo, so not much of a point in doing more without a turbo upgrade. xDrive is going to soak up some hp, so you are looking at max of ~355whp if a manual and 335whp if auto. If you want more you will have to upgrade to the PS2 and then you would be well in to the 400's with just those basic mods.

Start with an upgraded charge pipe.

You should find out which HPFP you have as they changed them in 2012. Go to realoem.com and look up your build date. You wont be able to run much boost on Ethanol mixtures if you have the newer HPFP.

Old higher flowing HPFP - 13517616170

New lower flowing HPFP - 13518604231

1. Chargepipe
2. MHD
3. Intercooler + Turbo outlet
4. Cat or catless downpipe
5. XHP
6. Methanol or Ethanol (LPFP will do nothing for you unless you run port injection)

This is all you need.

Chargepipe (VRSF, COBB, ER)

Intake (BMS, Injen)

MHD

Catless Downpipe (BMS, VRSF, AA, CPE) *get catless downpipe for smoother and more power as well as sound and on top on this, buy the VRSF DP Fix to pass emissions.

Intercooler 5" or 7" depending if you have upgraded turbo goals in the future. 5" is perfect for stock turbo. (VRSF, AA, ER, WAGNER)

NGK 95770 Plugs, Stock Coils will do.

You're welcome ??

Lol max hp on n55 x drive is not 335 whp. What are you talking about?? :

My friend has an x drive fbo with meth injection and the torque and launch is much better than rwd. Most certainly does not feel like 335 whp when it pulls 2+ car lengths on stock m4's and m3's

I feel like before you start modding you should just make sure all coils plugs and maintenance is up to date

Turbod , the fuel pump info is super helpful - unfortunately I have the new low-flow version, and rail pressure crashes under even a moderate Stage 2 tune. Ended up with 'OK' power but really needed to feather the tune's 'onset' to avoid crashing the pressure. Wondering if a retrofit HPFP is possible, or if anyone's come up with an aftermarket solution?

Let's see the dyno then. HP does not equal drag times. Also remember this is a pwg with a catted DP, so that is going to cost 10+whp.

I have a 2011 n55 with 60k miles on it. Thinking about getting a jb4 or mhd only. Was going to do new plugs but do you think coils are necessary for a tune only? The car runs well at the moment.

You could run with the original coils. If you start having misfires it would be the first thing to check though. I installed the JB4 at 38,000 miles and the first time I went to map 5 I started getting misfires. I replaced all the coils and haven't had a misfire since.

Start with and intercooler (Wagner EVO I, Active Autowerke or VRSF) + Charge Pipe.

Then JB4 + methanol injection
