Long crank still after new hpfp
2007 335i. Every morning upon starting the car i have atlas a 4 second crank.
Last weekend had a brand new HPFP installed from fop euro. Still a long crank in the morning!!! Saw a youtube video on replacing the fuel module behind the rear seats from the module m2 to the m3 model module. Still long crank in the morning!!! At this point I'm lost what my next step should be. Im thinking a new battery maybe? Car is garaged everyday. Every once in a while it will start fine in the morning but later in that same day it will have a long crank. Id say 1 long crank a day and 4 good starts a day on average. Any help would be much appreciated!!! |

No real test on the HPFP. A lot of BMW mechanics at the dealership when fixing other issues said its probably the HPFP when i mentioned the long cranks . And along with reading a bunch of threads about HPFP causes and signs. I was dumb and just pulled the trigger on a new one. Figured the old was going to give out anyways.

sounds like the low pressure fuel pump is unpriming or something. What happens if you push the start button without the car turning on so everything primes then wait 4 seconds and start it.

Do you have one of the newer DME revision that primes the pump when you unlock the car/open a door, etc.? |

not sure if that was sarcasm or not haha but I guess it does start priming when you open the door. Was just a suggestion!

What index injectors? I’m having the same issue after a brand new hpfp and stage 2 lpfp, long cranks still persist from time to time, cold start or not.
I have a theory that leaky injectors could cause the spark plugs to get wet, causing a long crank. |

Good idea. Ill try tomorrow morning pushing the button once. Wait a second or two and then push again while hiding the brake to start it. Interesting. Ill post afterwards

OP: did you just pull all your injectors out? If so, now is a good time to upgrade to version 12, etc. |

Injectors were pulled to clean and check back when i was having a misfire before the long crank issue. Ended up being a coil. Replaced all coils with new so that problem was solved. Yeah index 12 would be great but there a pretty penny in cost!! Does anybody think this could be a battery issue or ground cable down by the transmission?

No, sounds like you are getting plenty of amps to crank the battery. Now if the cranking goes from medium to slow, then it may be possible. A load test will rule this out. Take a look at the plugs, what do they look like, smell, wet?
