I got these "estimated" prices from a bilstein dealer in BC today. Prices are in CAD:

1x VE3-E247 - $295.00 each
1x VE3-E248 - $295.00 each
2x BE5-C042 - $340.00 /pair

Lead time was 1.5 weeks. They confirmed north american availability.

Sorry tolkino, I just couldnt resist posting this info.

The pricing of these arent really enticing are they??

Add on a couple hundred bucks for springs and we are in the 1100 dollar territory.

I was expecting the front shocks to be a little less actually. But they have the advantage of having sport/comfort setting.

I just had phoned Bilstein Canada and they said not for at least a few months. This is good news. That pricing seem very high compared to the i ones. It is Canadian pricing so that might be the problem.

interested as well..looking to get either KWV1 or the Bilstein setup

since a couple of us in TO are interested in suspension mod for xi, we should try to do a group buy to save a few bucks. Shipping will also be cheaper if shipped to one place.

PM me if interested. I am also open to the idea of another person organzing a group buy.

Cheers,
Derek

I asked RPI for a better price, or even a group buy. He came back with a whopping 50 dollars off of the whole set. I honestly think thats the best he can do -- they must be expensive.

At that price, why would anyone buy them over a proper set of coilovers

Generally speaking; coilovers > damper/springs right??

Just to point out for Bilstein shocks whatever the total amount comes up to, plus GST, plus $20 shipping. The units will be shipped from Canada to Canada therefore there will be no brokerage, duty or any other hidden fees.

I asked Bilstein NA about the prices and they told me the MSRP for fronts $385 each, and rears $199 each, these are in USD.

RPI will deduct around 40-50 for 3-4 ppl, but I believe they would shave off another 40 if there is around 8-10 people.

I think 3-4 people is an attainable goal. We should aim for that. Plus I bet shipping will be cheaper if everything is shipped to one location. I am also in the market for springs. Let's get the ball rolling here.

Just to throw a curve ball at you all..if Koni also make struts for xi, which brand would you pick and why? For myself, I would pick Koni b/c it has infinite adjustment.

Then Koni would be a better choice. Now this setup of Bilstein is not for everybody, I know some of us like to drop the car way low, but there is a specific drop you can get with springs. I mean to me it looks perfect but everyone's taste is different.

I double-checked with Tom @ RPI and he told me that these shocks are definitely non-adjustable, meaning there is no sport/comfort setting to choose from, and he added that he wouldnt recommend using a comfort setting with lowering shocks anyways.

I'd say this might change some minds as ppl would think getting a coilover is a better option, but since I already have springs installed on my car, and all I need is a firmer and more comfortable ride, these shocks are a better way for me to go. In this way I wouldnt worry about countless problems of coilovers; rusting, chirping, harshness, shipping, duty, brokerage, etc..

This is what he quoted me:

1x 50494 H&R Sport spring set $330.00
1x VE3-E247 - $275.00 each
1x VE3-E248 - $275.00 each
2x BE5-C042 - $340.00 /pair
Shipping is $55.00 /complete order as listed above
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub-total $1275.00
GST $63.75 (if located in BC you will also have to pay PST on the sub-total amount)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total $1338.75

This was his discounted price.

V1's or H&R's are not much more. If there was something really compelling about the Bilsteins over the coilovers, I'd be all over them but at these prices, I cant see the logic

In your case, since you already have springs, these might make more sense.

Just wondering if you guys can ask what these dealers are asking for the i struts. Just on your quote I believe you can save almost $100 on the springs if bought in the US.
I think once these become available in the US we will see better pricing. I just bought some Monore Quick Struts(not for the BMW ) here they wanted $330 - $350(sale pricing) vs $160 in the US.

I mean, people keep saying that aftermarket springs don't match well with stock shocks but how do you know they will match well with the bilsteins? Shouldn't there be a matched spring/shock combo from bilstein?

"The Bilstein shocks are designed to work with any Sport spring that will also fit the OEM shocks as the spring perches on the Bilsteins are designed and situated in the exact positions mimicking the OEM strut."

This is the last e-mail I received from Tom @ RPI regarding the matching issue.

If bilstein is not adjustable, it sure makes it less attractive.

My hope is that they will perform well on uneven or bumpy surfaces. At least this is what I've heard so far. I dont believe that they will have any rusting issues.

I just ordered a set for me, I'll be giving a review to those who are wondering.
