You need to remove the mirrors. To remove the mirrors, you need to remove the door panel. I've done it a couple times. Not a bad job. There are DIYs for the door panels.

There's only so much diy guides can help you. You just have to start, mess up a little bit til you get used to it, and then have patience. I used one long straight piece for the top trim even around the bend at the back. You just have to keep working it (a hair dryer makes the tape reallllly stretch, be careful not to rip it).

Cut the length of piece you need (or a little shorter if you want to conserve, since you'll be stretching it anyways), tape it up to your car with painters tape, pull off the backing of the tape while running your thumb against it making sure you don't get any air bubbles. Coming into the turn I approached it like one would driving a turn (since the tape I had was 4" wide) where at the beginning the top half of the tape was going on the trim, by the middle of the bend it was the inside/bottom half of the tape, then coming out of it it was back to the outside/top. Then use a credit card to fold the edges around the trim, and a sharp exacto knife to carefully cut it without scratching the paint or cutting into the rubber.

I didn't. Just slide it along under the mirror. It doesnt have to be perfect

Does someone have a picture of this? To me, this sounds very ghetto, I'd like to see the results.

It is ghetto. I'm sure if you take your time under the mirror it will come out fine. I had my window trim professional vinyled and under the mirror looked like absolute shit. I ended up bringing the car home, removing the door panel and mirrors, and redoing it.

I would be interested to see how this turns out. I have been looking to swap the matt black trims to the gloss ones, but don't wanna go into the problem of having leak problems.
