Why not just get them powder coated in matte black?

Paint for bbq grills is flat black and can withstand very high temperatures. I don't know how well it will clean up after a few months of road grime though.

HD guy said sand em (follow sanding guide for blackout kidney grills) an then 4-5 coats should hold up, as far as chipping goes he said it shouldn't chip to much in visual areas only like underneath. i didnt see flat or matte blk in the high temp cans maybe just out of stock where i am.

This falls under the category of "ghetto." Black tips would not even look good, they would look like you never clean them.

i bought the same thing and i just sanded them very well to give the paint a good surface to hold on to then i sprayed them with black engine paint (you can get it at most autozone or auto hobby shops) it is heat rated so no problem there. 4-5 coats was all i needed, then sprayed with 2 coats clear gloss to protect it better. after a few days the gloss fades and makes a nice matte black look. if this doesnt work for you, you can always get them powdercoated after... i can send pics so you can see the result
