M3 (manual coupe) vs xkr auto vs 335dct

Test drove both of the above back to back 2 hours unaccompanied in the jag 20 mins accompanied in the m3.

I was really disappointed with the m3 it felt slower than my 335 and much slower than the jag. The interior sucked compared to the jag and I think the jag is better looking.

I was surprised as I really expected the m3 to be excellent. What are other people\'s thoughts?

Not sure what Jag you drove? but the 58 plate XKR I drove had a terrible interior, full of hard plastic,Modeo switch gear and out of date nav.

my first drive of the M3 - left me VERY dissappointed!!!

you HAVE to get used to using the revs - obviously me having a 335d at the time - meant i was always at 1000-2500rpm

Once you get used - its AWESOME!

Beat an Aston Martin V12 Vantage from the lights a few months ago..............

Of the 3 the M3 is the best car by a mile, IMO.

The 'Ring times for the M3 is pretty impressive, but I was quite shocked when the new Megane RS (its got back seats, air con, not the stripped out R26.R) with only FWD and only 270 BHP got within 3 seconds of the M3 time. Looking at the times again the NSX with only 270 BPH and suspension/tyre technology from over a decade ago is still quicker than the current M3

May be the current "super saloons" aren't actually all that quick, its just the fact we've all use to driving over weight, gadget laden motorway barges which makes cars like the M3 seem quick in comparison

I would however trade my 335i for a M3 in heart beat

I know everyone says it was stock - but that megane time - set by Renault themselves - looks suspiciously fast. Has anyone else independently made one go that quick? Trick suspension, tyres and overzealous weight saving all spring to mind.

If I worked in Renault - why set a time with a stock one?

Those times are not a fit-for-purpose comparison though. More like a bit of fun. Weather, track temperature and tyres make a massive difference even on small tracks let alone the length of the 'ring.
