N53 Remap + 3 stage mainfold upgrade

Hi Everyone,

I have recently changed my E91 325I N52 touring for a wait for it E91 325I Touring!

However the new car has the N53B30 engine, and I have just got hold of a 3 stage manifold from a 330I as this is the only hardware difference.

I am now after a company with a dyno to remap or possibly I will change the DME (and CAS, EWS, locks) from a another car and have to recode in NCS expert..

Has anyone done this, and does any one have experience of getting the mapping done? Or did you swap DME?

Mosselman is one option I'm aware of but they don't have a rolling road (UK agent).

I have asked a few company and non seem to have direct experience of it - not sure if I should gamble on this point.

At the is point Im seriously considering a DME swap....

Hello will I am very keen to do this mod as well. Have you seen the threads on here from essexlad? He has successfully done this mod including a good remap after.

I am in the process of finding the correct inlet manifold, what is the part number of the one you have bought? I have been looking on realoem.com and it looks like the one off a 330i is - 11617593004.

Essexlad seems to have a lot of experience with this mod

I think finding a good ECU remapper with experience on our engine will be much easier than swapping DME etc.

Awesome news no I hadn't seen any thread have been searching like crazy!

I have a manifold... I also know of a 2nd manifold if you need one....

IS essesxlad on this forum... will search next

I agree on the remapping from the DME etc swap is a nightmare...

I was also going to have a go at coming the DME + other bits in NCSexpert to the 330I... But I understand the ECU is locked down after 10 hours and can't be changed...

Update.... Auto Enhance/ Mosselmap ala Essex_lad post.

I haven't been able to speak to anyone technical and Auto Enhance, just sales people... I am not convinced if there was a problem that there would be a solution, thats my gut reaction talking there...

here is mine its of a 2009 e93 330i

Luckily it quite easy to dissemble the manifold and clean it when you get one from a scrappy... mine was filthy..

Thanks for loading up the picture I'm interested in buying the inlet manifold if you know of one for sale? When I swap mine I'm prob going to replace all gaskets/seals.

When I looked on realoem for a 330i inlet manifold part number it was different to the one you have. Realoem suggests the part number should be 11617593004. That was looking at a 2007 e93, maybe that's why.

Have you decided on who to remap the ECU after the manifold is fitted?

I plan to put mine on a rolling road before starting any work

Where are you based will? I've just seen a rolling road company in Surrey offering rolling road tests on a Saturday for £40. It sounds very reasonable so I might book my car in.

I had the same experience with realoem not matching, just get one from a N53B30 engine from a 330i,530i,630i or (x70 i think), they all cross reference the part in realm on these models.....

I just checked the 2nd one sold...

near Cambridge...

I not sure on tuning yet... one option is to buy a new DME and have it coded with 330 software...but that expensive.

Loads of tuners in Germany and Belgium can do it..

Ive got emails in at 2 more tuners today, maybe ill get something positive in the next few days... If I do would you be interested in clubbing together and seeing if we can get a discount?

I want a before and after rolling road too btw..

Ive mailed essex_lad to see if he had his car put on a dyno, and what his experience is like with AE... Essentially its a mosselmap with some basic customisation thats being done on road... Im guessing they have a portable wideband, not that the sales person could confirm tho..

The euro tuners are getting 280-290bhp out of a standard 330i so I'm hoping for something close this. Kf i Could find someone with ECU explorer its possible to reset the working hours in our DME and then just upload a new VO with the OEm 330I map... But I can't find anyone offering this either...

Presumably worth a decoke when the manifold is off.. or do the naturally aspirated DI engines not suffer so much with the inlets coking..

How much are we looking at for a used manifold?

Have you got any updates on this? Any good news?

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to do this mod any time soon will. I only bought my e93 2 weeks ago and it needs a lot of tidying up/maintenance before I start power mods. I also definitely want it on a rolling road, for £40 it is definitely worth doing.

When do you plan to fit your manifold? I've been looking for 330i manifolds but most don't come with the DISA valve so I'm going to keep looking until I find one complete.

For a 54bhp increase this mod is so worth while, I'm surprised it's not covered more online.

I've PM'd Essexlad on here, he said the mod is done but he hasn't put the car on a RR. It's a guessing game until you have done that IMO.

Going a bit off topic here will but what does your N53 sound like at idle? Mine has a "ticking", I'm wondering if it's normal on these

Ticking is normal it's the piezo injectors

Mine also has a sssh type noise similar to rubbing brake discs. I'm led to believe it's the fuel pressure regulator as it comes and goes around idle to 2000 rpm. Anyone else got that?

The ticking makes it sound like a diesel! it does go at any rpm above idle though. I read it was because the engine runs very lean at idle to reduce emissions/road tax?

I don't have the sssh noise on mine. I think there is a lot to learn on the n53 engine

It sounds like a diesel at idle until you actually put one next to a diesel at idle then they sound quiet as fook.
