hi
i have individual audio with 16 speakers.
can i upgrade just the speakers under the front seats for more bass or do i really need separate sub in the trunk?

has anyone done it?

you could just upgrade the underseats and
add a 2 channel amp .
Jehnert speakers for accuracy and midbass
SWS-8 for subwoofer type bass

ok, so there is so much information in there i don't know where to start.
which speakers can i use for the beneath the seats and can i just upgrade the speakers without an amp and if not which amp do i need?

I'd just add a trunk sub
That's what I did
And it sounds much better

Assuming your not planning on adding a trunk sub I'd do sws8's if you don't get an amp it won't be much of an upgrade. For an amp personally I would do a JL xd400/4 bridged but you have many options. You need to put in some effort in figuring out what you want to do.

The Individual Audio OEM amp requires a 30V+ max LOC before adding an amp to it. The OEM woofers are 7ohms so you will need an aftermarket amp of at least 150W RMS to move those.

Please search on M3Post forum for more details and examples of OEM woofers/sub upgrades. This is not the "normal" Logic7 woofer/sub upgrade posted in E90Post forum.
