325D high pitched humming
Hi
Last week my car started to produce a high pitched humming noise from what seems to be around the back right of the car. It is a constant humming, and does not change in speeds and it there at idle? I cant see any change in the cars performance? Does anyone have any ideas, before i get it checked. Thanks Mark |

The facts it's there when the car is at rest rules out all the usual suspects like tyres, wheel bearings, seized calipers etc. Only source of a noise like that at the rest I know of is the low pressure fuel pump. I think you need to get the car up on a ramp and have a listen...
EDIT - just realised you have a diesel. Not so sure what the fuel pumping arrangements are on the diesel. On petrol cars there is a two-stage process - low pressure pumping from the rear and a high pressure pump in the engine bay.

You may have a vacuum in the tank. When the humming is back pull the tank cap and see if it stops.

I had a constant high pitched whining type noise coming from the right back, turned out to be the fuel filter.
Previous owner didn't change it when it got serviced and so it was getting blocked. |
