E92 ATC300 transfer case actuator failure

Hi,

typical issue with worm gear failure and currently I have two options:

1) buy whole new actuator - do I need to adapt it to the transfer case?
2) refurbish the old one and plug and play?

Which one to consider, need the car going. Have ISTA available.

Did the gear actually fail? I have taken many of these apart and have seen worn but still functional gears. The ATC300 uses metal parts for the gearset in the actuator.

I bought a Chinese Amazon one to compare and that one looked pretty good. Worth a try

100% failed - yes both worm gear and round one are metal. Round one was fine but worm completely eaten - visibly different material.

I've already bought aftermarket worm gear which is supposed to be pressed on actuator shaft but it had incorrect dimensions and had to return it.

I'll be buying Bosch OE actuator - my only worry is i won't be able to adapt it to transfer control module. Did you ever replace whole actuator? Any issues?

As long as it's the right part number, it should be as simple as resetting the transfer case adaptation. In my foxwell scanner there was an option for 'new T-case' or something like that.

Thanks, Bosch actuator seller says the same and I found function in ISTA to reset actuator adaptation.

Replaced servomotor today .. worked fine immediately after installation - all dashboard lights gone after engine start. I did ISTA - Service Function - Transfer Case Actuator repair adaptation anyway.

So far so good.

I bought worm gear and worm gear puller from eBay. Simple job to change it. Worked fine immediately after. All light gone. Miss spinning rear tires though!

Yeah, plug and play all lights gone - I did the adaptions anyway since I had interface and software. Same here regarding RWD but still I like xDrive for what it is
