Installing front axles - grease required?

I am about to reinstall front axles after cleaning them off. I noticed that there was a thin layer of grease in the tube running through the oil pan.
Is it necessary to re-apply some grease to the axle shafts that are going into the oil pan/diff?
I know that diff oil is there too, but it seems there's also some compatible grease used.

Thanks
