Have any of you guys with 200k+ miles on your N54's ever sent an oil sample to Blackstone Labs? And/or done a compression test to see how well the rings and valves are sealing?

Just curious. I hope my N54 keeps running good for a long time....I'm more worried about the stupid ZF 6HP21 6 speed auto transmission 😟
Honestly, these auto transmissions are pretty solid! Unless you are going for big HP.

I'm around 400-ish HP...and mine is starting to slip. Definitely not big HP.

I'm at about 450hp/tq and 206k miles. I have only changed the fluid/pan(back at 118k), no seals/solenoids/sleeve, and my tranny is going strong. The only time(s) I have had an issue(and this was 50k or so miles ago, nothing remotely recently) was a couple times I got on it when the tranny/fluid was still very cold.

I understand your reason for worry as I have seen your posts on it, but I think you just got unlucky and bought a car that had the tranny mildly abused.

I replaced my original stock factory turbos at 186k miles with new stock turbos from FCPEuro. I am still at 192k miles currently. New oil pan gasket installed at 186k miles as well.

Mine is a 2008 e90 335xi FBO. Car still drives well and I love it more than my Tesla Model 3 Performance that I spent like $80k on in 2018 (Only thing nice about the tesla is that I get Free Unlimited Supercharging for life, but even that sucks because the car only can do 200 total driven miles on a 310 mile battery).

My drive from NorCal to SoCal and back is 280 miles door to door. If I take the n54 FBO I can get 450 miles to a tank and be cruising @ about 80 mph the entire way full heater running and a loaded car to the brim with people and stuff.

If I do that same drive in the Model 3 Performance with Track package, just me alone in the car with no stuff and no HVAC, no seat warmers, driving 50 mph in covid lock down to get the most efficient possible drive. Starting out at 90% from NorCal, I will need to stop at San Louis Obispo, CA to charge at 20% and at least one more stop in between before I finally reach Oxnard, CA at 20% to juice up to 90% before climbing over that giant hill into Thousand Oaks. Each charging session is about 40-50 mins

So I guess you can say, I Like the n54

I started to post on this thread yesterday and got distracted. 210K miles on mine and still running strong. Original turbos. Original auto tranny fluid. Occasional tranny hiccup.

All other usual suspects replaced, some of them twice.

But then my son, driving the car, sent me this picture last night. Total loss, I'm guessing.

Damn, that hurts. Looks like it got rear ended? Or did he drift into a pole...either way, it looks easily fixable even if it is a total loss. Buy it back and fix it like Efthreeoh did with his (third?) deer encounter

No time for all that lol. Rear quarter panel, trunk lid, bumper and carrier, tail light, etc. If they total it I'll move on. It's a nice, well-maintained car, and turns my head every time I see it. I'd be sad to see her go, but it's just a car and one that's getting long in the tooth.

^^

Yep, no one hurt. It's a learning experience. Priceless.

Been there, done that.

But more to the point of the thread, this is an example of a 210k mile N54 that was ready to serve another 100k at least. Stock tho.

Gotta say, the E90 is one fine looking car. KW ST coilovers, rep wheels (265 rear, 245 front), rear spoiler, front splitters, black grills and shadowlines really set it off. Since my son's been driving it, every time I see it it turns my head. Gorgeous lines.

238,000 miles on mine!

I'm starting to hear a weird moaning that sounds like the small turbo. It's original and stock. I'm adopting a "wait and see" attitude.

I was getting a siren howl like sound on one turbo before I swapped out for a new set of stock FCPEuro turbos on my car at 186k miles. The one bad turbo was impossible to close the wastegate even when removed from the car. I hope my car can eventually get to 300k miles. The car has more than paid for itself in mileage.

Thought I would update this post from last year. I went ahead and serviced the transmission with new oil, filter pan, seals, and shift solenoids.......no more slipping issues, even after bumping up the power some more with an E40 tune

I do have a nice used transmission sitting in the shop in case I do ever need to replace mine though....

178kms original turbos running good.

I wonder how long a n54 could last if driven by a grandma its whole life.

Lol, just saw this today (May 31, 2022)...

It was the forth deer hit, in April 2018 IIRC.

3rd deer hit was a $3,200 PDR bill insurance covered without totalling...
