MSV80 won't fire up after Winkfp update

Hi, my first post here.

I recently purchased 07 E90 323i here in Japan and started working on it.
I read about DME and Trans updates using Winkfp.

Long story short, Trans update was successful. I felt the noticeable difference in how trans behaves.
Then I started working on DME and tried to update my car with a file I got from bimmerlabs and it kinda failed.

Now my car shows all the caution marks as I turn on the ignition, then the engine won't fire up. It cracks just fine but never runs.

Has anyone experienced similar issues? And is there a way to revert it back to working file?

Cheers.

Did you flash a calibration? If you just update the program, and don't flash a calibration, it's not going to run.

it says in your screenshot "data not present" in the programming status.

no I have not, I just tried to follow the instruction available on bimmerlabs' "help" page.

Just googled about "flashing calibration on winkfp" and found a PDF.

Is this what I need to follow?

Read through the pdf briefly and now I'm thinking, I do not have the original backup file to begin with.

Just follow the Bimmerlabs instructions.

You don't need a back up, a copy of your original file is in the Daten folders.

You need to flash a calibration. It doesn't start because there's no tune - when you update the program, it erases everything.

Just make sure the calibration matches the MI20S program version. They are all there on the Bimmerlabs site.

I followed their instructions but and this happened. I really shouldn't have touched it from the beginning, I guess.

I would love to get a remote support if anyone is still around, I am willing to pay.

Nothing "happened". You just didn't finish the process.

Think about it like this. You erased the hard drive on your computer and installed a new version of Windows (or Linux/MacOS - whatever). But now it has no software installed so you can't do anything with it. That's kind of what what the RSA delete / master program is - it's like the operating system for the DME. It doesn't do much on it's own.

This sets up the computer but now it has no calibration, so the car won't start. Now you need to install the calibration, which is the rest of the data needed to run the car. The calibration is literally empty, because it gets erased when you flashed a new program (the RSA delete, or even an unmodified 0pa file).

Download the calibration (stock tune) for MI20S and flash it. It will work.

Thanks for breaking it down so that I understand the situation just roughly now, but cannot find the stock file as I wrote in other thread. Can It be found somewhere online?

I'm aware that I'm asking such silly questions and being dumb. Really appreciating your help.

it's honestly not entirely your fault, I've been wanting to re-do that interface for a while now. It makes sense if you already know what a hardware and ZB number are, or what an 0pa or 0da do, but otherwise it can be confusing.

Well I finally started to understand what those files are but I've only flashed my E36 before which only required single "writing" process therefore I got confused.
My car's back on the road anyways. Imma spend some time learning about flashing and hopefully I'll be flashing 325 file into my 323.

Thanks for all the supports!

actually, the 0pa/0da format goes back at least to the E36. It's just on those early cars, there was typically only one "program" version, and maybe one or two calibration revisions over the life of the car. Things got way more complicated in the modern age.
