2009 E92 325i UK engine size

Hello,
I have had my E92 for just over a week now and was curious about the engine size. From what I’ve read I’m 99% sure it’s a 3.0L engine as everything does suggest this, even the door panel and engine sticker itself says so however when I have looked into the V5 it says 2500cc. I get it’s detuned due to the intake manifold but to me this information sounds conflicting... the engine says N53B30A.

Wanted to settle a debate I’ve had with a friend who wants one himself.

Ps. I know I don’t have the power of a 330i, but it beats anything I’ve had before

The engine code should say what it is. It'll show on the side of the engine under your intake manifold. N53B30 means it's a 3.0. B25 is 2.5 of course. I don't think they made the N53 in 2.5 form but I could be wrong. So if you have direct injection you likely have a 3.0

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I have confirmed the engine is the N53B30A.
However the vehicle documents says 2500cc would this be an error? I’m confused

Wait a minute, I thought your road tax and registration fees are based on engine emissions. I don't think the registration will be wrong.

Don't you also face big fines for unregistered engine swaps?

Not sure I haven’t done an engine swap myself it was bought from a dealership in this state. It’s 325i but as far as I’m aware after early 2007 e92 325i used the 3.0l N53 engine.

Has anyone got any idea why the registration might say 2500cc, is this because it has been detuned with the intake manifold to 2.5?

Well I think this is only a benefit to you. You're paying taxes on a 2.5 engine while the engine is a 3.0. Sounds awesome to me, screw the state and their ridiculous regulations

I wonder if all 325s were like this and BMW pulled a diesel gate type stunt. If the engine code is b30 then it's a 3 liter I've never seen that be wrong

N53 only came as 3.0.

Sounds like your registration document is wrong. What g of emissions is your car showing on https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Should be the same as your V5.

Most likely an error on the registration document.

Well two way to know 100%

Read the Id on the engine block. Probably under in intake manifold or read out the ZB from the DME. From the ZB we can pull the software you are actually running.

Your VIN number might be a really good clue as well.

It is a mistake on the log book. Probably done at first registration. 2500 is wrong as it should be 2497cc IF it was an N52B25 which it isn't. I expect a lazy salesman was in a rush or something.

It is also showing 170g CO2 which is the correct value for the N53. This means you are paying the correct tax for the vehicle.
