can we have some more impressions from those daily driving on the RS-RRs? I was a big fan of the RSRs and it's time for new rubber, definitely concerned about noise level though

Hi. I'm from Perú.

I have a wheel set just for autocross: Konig 17x7 but i don't know what tires pick. There is 2 option:

Federal 595 RS-RR 215/45/17 ($127 per tire) or Maxxis RC1 (slick tw 100) 225/45/17 ($140 per tire)

Wich of this 2 will be better with the 7" rim?

Thanks and greetings from Perú!

In the summer I have been running 595Rs on the front and Toyo R888s on the rear. Once the Toyos wear out I'm tempted to go Federals on the rear as well.
This is my daily driver.

The main thing that concerns me though is in the past many Federals have been shown to crack across the whole tyre. On a high power car this is a worry. More so as I'm now running Vargas GC turbos.

I don't know if this defect is now resolved or not

Not my tyre:

It means the Federal 595 RS-RR. Don't matter if the other option is a slick tire (Maxxis Victra RC1)?

Thanks!

No, it means 215/45/17 fits the rim better. 224/45/17 is better on 7.5" rim. 235 on 8". 245 on 8.5" and so on...

Bought the federals before I was aware of their defective design.
They are not currently fitted to my car but I will be monitoring them closely if they go back on.

I run toyos because they had the best reviews for grip of any tyre I could get in the UK.

A tyre under greater load is going to be more prone to failure and Wear.

Yes, but you boasted your high HP CG VTT 335i as solely cause for the greater load and wear of the tires when in reality that is not the case. I have seen Toyo R888, Nitto NT01, BFGoodrich Rival and Federal 595-RSR splitting on low HP and light cars like S2000, BRZ, Focus ST and etc. How they manage to do it?

Rather impressed with them in moderate to heavy rain. With TC on, wheel spin was very light, and acceleration was very strong, almost "holy shit" strong. With TC off from a standing start tires grip way better than the R-S3's ever did on full throttle launch. I will be running them at Road Atlanta on Friday, be a good comparison between them and last time there on the R-S3's.

Noise? Yes. Lots of noise. Probably the loudest tire I have ever had.

Damn good tires. Knocked 2 seconds off my best time at Road Atlanta running the RS-3's. Day started cold, 42 degree's. We were the first run group out and right away I could tell the traction was pretty good for a cold track. My times on a cold track with ambient temps in mid-40's were almost as good as my best on the RS-3's on a perfect day. Started with 33psi all around, came off track and temps were 40psi. As the day warmed up to mid-60's I just kept bleeding off air down to 38 before session, and they would be at 40psi after session.

38-40psi seems to be a good range, at least for my car. Tires never ran up on sidewall, just barely brushing the arrows. Trail braking was better than the Hankooks, and the car would tuck in and rotate perfectly. When you approach the limits of the tire, they don't give an audible like anything I have ever run. There is a rumble you feel through the wheel and you hear it also. Takes a while to get used to. The frequency of the rumble changes as the slip angle changes. Its weird, but it works. Braking is outstanding. With the R-S3's my StopTech brakes would over power the tires getting into the ABS. I could not feel the ABS through the pedal, but the tires were chirping away and a slight wiggle. That's gone as the car never gets into ABS and I'm applying full braking deeper and with more pressure. Max G's the tires pulled was 1.18, and we shall see how they do once it gets hot.

Virtually no wear after 5-25minute sessions.

Yes, they are very loud. Louder than any tire I have had. Starts at 40mph. In April I'm going to the local track. I hope that they will do well there.

I tried them out on the rain last night and you are absolutely correct! They hook very nice. I'm stunned! Better than my previous R-S3 and PSS too.

My trip from Road Atlanta back to Huntsville last week was in heavy rain most of the trip. I still made it in a new record 3.6 hrs. 95mph in the heavy rain was NP.

Here they are in the rain. No TC or Stability on, full throttle launch, minimal wheel spin. Never seen anything like it.

I went to ACC North course (Autobahn County Club north track in Joliet IL) and did 1.14.8 which is my personal best. With the RS-3 I as hovering around 1.17-1.18 and the PSS around 1.20. So that is good 2 sec from tire to tire. Honestly, I was very surprised because: I run intermediate group because I'm not the best driver. I think car can do more with better driver. They don't squeal much and wear nicely. Show minimal wear after 7x20 minutes sessions. Speeds up to 120mph. I have open diff and about 350whp. The rear end kept stable. You need to be super aggressive to cause it to step out. Another sign that these are better than RS-3 and PSS is my brakes. There ran hotter. I relate that to more sticky tires. Additionally, they got quieter after the track day.
