I don't like it that you have to use the little screw on the side...

I like it for that reason. On my E46 The shift knob flew off on me a few times during normal driving.

shift boot

ok my apologies for being off subject a little but does anyone know anybody that has changed the leather color of their shift boot? I don't even know if it would look good but I was thinking of trying out a Terra boot to match my apolstry. Is this even possible? Would it look rediculous?

Never heard of anyone switching the leather...it would probably work. The only thing is you would probably have to find the right leather that matches your interior and then have to get someone to sew it up for yourself.

The wood shifter looks nice...I presume it matches the woodgrain you have in your car?

yes, they assured me it was the same burl that BMW uses for the burl walnut trim. There is this LeatherZ company that does leather work on Z3's and Z4's but I haven't seen anything on any other model or anything useing the Terra color. I don't even know if it would look ok though. Just a thought.

Does anyone know if there is an E92 version of the first OEM short knob in the thread? I only ask because the E92 standard knob is chrome and not aluminium 'effect', I'd like the shorter one but not in aluminium. The 3 series BMW parts brochure mentions chrome when in fact the pictures show the aluminium one. Just wondered if anyone has seen the chrome version and if so how easily did they get hold of it? Part No's etc? Thanks.....

My UUC RK4

I posted these in another thread, but it looks like they should be here, too. The RK4 looks and feels great--I highly recommend it.

Congrats BHairsto. Mind telling us some more info...how does shifting action feel in comparison to stock? Do you know how much the knob weighs?

The top metal looks engraved...looks like it might be annoying and rub against your hand. How does it feel?

The shift action feels more solid and a little shorter due to the knob being stubbier than the OEM knob. The lever seems to go into the gates with less effort due to the weight of the knob. It has almost eliminated my lust for a SSK (I stress almost). I believe it's 16 oz--it's definitely a heavy SOB and time will tell whether it has any ill effects on the tranny. The engraving doesn't bother me b/c I mostly grip the sides of the knob rather than the top. I've had an RK Magnum before, and this feels much better.
