Hello, Im a new member here and I've owned my 328i for just about a year now and I Decided to get a roof rack for it.
I got a used BMW rack off of craigslist, and I needed to install it with a tamper torx screw, and after I'll put the Yakima ski rack on. Although I can manage to fit the Yakima clamps over the rack, what should I do? |

Denied SMOG over this
Are they stock side inlets or relocated? I don't have any issues smogging my car with upgraded turbos and stock side inlets.[/QUOTE]
I have a silicone inlet (although painted black). Other than that, visually car is stock. Any recommendations would help. Thanks in advance. Last edited by dhern22; 12-29-2019 at 01:21 PM.. Reason: Trying to insert photo |

Ok, but are they silicone inlets that are on the same side as stock(like oem setup) or silicone intakes that are now on the passenger side(relocated)? If they are stock type inlets I do not see why you are having an issue passing. A smog tech is not going to know the inlets aren't stock unless he REALLY knows the N54 engine/setup. EDIT: Just saw the pic, it isn't showing in your post, only in a reply. Did the smog tech say something about them? I have been to a few different smog places and no one has every said anything about my inlets(same as yours). I install all the stock intake ducting and everything to conceal them more also. |

But if it looks stock to you, then I should be good (I hope). Could you PM me where you go? I'm local to Sac and the Bay and anywhere up here. Thanks in advance. Last edited by dhern22; 01-05-2020 at 04:54 AM.. |

New To Bay Area; Please advise
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the bay area and recently purchased a 2011 335d with 112K on it. One month in and I am already having issues. Check engine light came up and I took it over to O Reilly’s and got them to read the code. I received a P208E error code which equates to Faulty Reductant Injection Valve Stuck/Closed. I called East Bay BMW in Pleasanton and they said they don’t read anyone else’s code and must complete their own diagnostic. $225 of the bat. I drove the car there because the car drives fine. Its just a emissions thing. They run the diagnostic and come back and hand me a bill of $5366.02 worth of repairs. Please see attached. They say the engine light is on because of a faulty SCR metering Valve which costs $1259.93 with parts and labor. The SCR tank is just out of warranty because car was manufactured July 2011 and its now November 2021. They wont honor it even though California Emissions warranty covers 10 year/ 120k. No luck here. Then they say I have a faulty FRM system failure that costs $1472.39 with parts and labor. At first they wouldn’t cover this and then I went back and forth with them and they said its covered under warranty and will fix and pay for it. Then we have the following other issues: Thrust ROD Bushing with parts and labor: 1070.82 Alignment: 607.50 Cooling system flush: 210.67 Engine Leak concern (Small Seep Somewhere) Diagnostic 225.00 Battery: 519. 31 Now I am going to have them fix the FRM system under warranty but I am outta luck on SCR tank metering valve. Any suggestions on what to do here? I was thinking of doing an delete on this car anyways. Guess what I am asking is do you know any good shops that work on e90’s in the bay area where I am not getting the run around ? Second, do you know anyone that could help me do the delete’s? Thanks Sukhi |

Sorry to hear that @DukeDVL.e90
I am new to NorCal/Bay Area. Look for Indy Shop for some upgrades and future maintenance. Any recommendations on shops will be appreciated. Thanks!

Emissions warranty is not based off of the birthdate but when it was sold. That will be at the top of the bill but if you are over the 100k or whatever, yeah it's not covered. Monument auto parts has Deka batteries, my battery of choice for BMWs

@DukeDVL.e90 those prices are bonkers!
Try talking to Vt Motorworks, and Funk's Autoworks. Both great shops that can get you better prices. For the thrust rod bushing you may want to just change out the whole control arms. |

2011 n52k timing chain
Recently had terrible idle problems and misfiring that i got my car towed to a local car shop. i get results back telling me that i had a timing chain skip a spoke and cause a ton of damgae resulting in me having to buy an engine,
does this sound like something that happens frequently to bmws with less than 20k? |

20k no, 200k, you should be on your 3rd. Chains stretch and when they do, they become loose and when they get loose your engine will go away.

yea, platform has aged a bit, fuel prices up, so less driving. I'm interested in getting a custom rear diffuser fabbed if anyone knows where to start. bay area.
