What is this rusty nut under the driver seat?

Howdy folks,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Finally got a pre-loved ultimate driving machine. The car is mint, and there is only one thing that bothers me: a rusty nut under the driver seat. Sixth grade humor aside, can I take the nut off safely without the seat exploding or doing some funky thing that requires warranty? I have experience with British cars, so that's why I am asking ;-)

The picture of the offender is below.

I have the same rusty nuts under my seats. If I had to take a guess, I think it’s due to the high humidity during winter after the snow from our boots are melted and sitting on the floor mats, not from actual water sitting on it.

Just forget about it, not enough rust to cause any structural problem. If you don't like the looks spray some rust reformer on it.

If you really care about removing it, this nut is not one of the important seat holding nuts. It's the rail on which the motor runs to go back and forth. You can remove it without any side effects. The other one under it (black alen type) has to be replaced, and carefully re-torqued to spec: it does hold you in place in an accident situation.

The same bolt in my e92 is rusty just like that I assume it's from salty and snow in the winter. Use a paint pen to cover it up if it bothers you.

This doesn't belong in DIY guides section. Needs to go into Interior section
