Hollow Tapping Noise 330i

This tapping noise always comes on when it starts up cold and when its warmed up. This is how my 2006 330i sounds when its driven even after 40 MINUTES! What is that hollow tapping noise. And sometimes it makes a stuck zzzzzhzhzhzhzh noise. My tech says its idle coupler pulley or something like that. BUT WHAT IS THIS TAPPING NOISE?

You really made a descriptive post and that video is extremely useful. All I can say is those sounds were very familiar on my 06 330i also until I switched to liquimoly molygen 5w40. It was so strange to me but it quieted the motor so significantly. My friend also has an 06 330i and he used the blue bottle liquimoly 5w40 from them instead. Even though it was a different LM product, it still left with him with a much quieter motor. Perhaps you might want to try one of their products at the next oil change. We were both using mobil 0w40 and I also tried pennzoil euro 0w40. Burn rates were similar with all oils at about 1qt per 2500 to 3k miles, but the effect on the sound of the motor keeps me using LM.
