You guys are all wrong.

Now that I think about it, I believe the argument that lighter weight means that you can brake later, corner harder and just overall kick ass. I mean it's just hyper-quantum sub-molecular physics. Jeez, you guys are so stupid.

Screw my modified 335i. I'm getting one of these for my track toy.

Imagine how late I will be able to brake when I only have 1600 lbs to stop and only have to slow the car from 45 to 40mph for turn-in! No problems with HP making me drive too fast, either! Booyeah! Better start exercising your fingers so you're ready to point me by!

Bwwahhhaahahahah !!!! Although, it would be somewhat fun to have about 8 of these and race. At least for an hour or so. You could get some reading done in the straights. Eat your lunch in the turns. Probably have enough time to text your buddies on corner exit.

jk.

I wouldn't get car sick in that... I get SEA sick!!!!!

So back on topic...

What do you guys think of this as a track car?

$20k for an older viper with low miles seems like a stupendous deal for a track car. NASA TT seems to agree, given the SUR classing for the viper

Thoughts?

Holy crap! The one time I got spooked on track two weekends ago at Pocono was when I looked in my rear view and there was nothing there and I heard some horrible noise and looked up and there was a Viper. Luckily there was a straight right after the turn that this happened and I pointed it by but DAMN those cars are sick. I think if I had to own an American car, that would be the car I'd buy.

what's that - about 400HP/perhaps a bit more torque. less than 2,000 made that year. prolly worth about $15k - what a loser on value, but grab it if you fish low. Don't pay more than that.

PLEASE don't pay more - then invest your saved $5k in tires and brakes.

ready to roll (and scare bimmer drivers)

FWIW - I am about 2 seconds slower than a STOCK C6 Z06 on a 2 mile track. I am about 1.5 seconds faster than a 997S. A 335i, with a few mods, is damn capable.

Will you bring it to Autobahn on Monday, Aug 18th?

I'll be there.. just wondering.

Sweet car.

It needs more seats so all of us could ride with you.

I guess his picture is a two seat Radical... Duh. Sorry. Although hitting 100mph in one might be a little windy.

Thanks for everyone's replies to my thread. I didn't mean to start an argument here but everyone's got an opinion....
I still can't make up my mind but that's part of the fun. I've got a few months to look around before i made a decision. Is it going to be a cheap DD and a e30/36/miata/s2000 or a new 335.....hmmmm

Thanks again for a great forum!

This is a huge thread...sorry to jump in so late.

I currently own a Spec E30 that I have rented out a few times and driven at a couple NASA events and multiple CCA Autox. It is a great car for track, Spec racing, TT, HPDE and autox. I have seen these same cars hang with stock e36 M3s, due to their awesome handling once setup in Spec trim.

The car is for sale if anyone is interested.

If you are interested my entire build is here:

Thanks,
Joe

There were two Radicals at my last track day and they're rediculous. They make 450HP 2006 M3's look like they're standing still. They're just silly fast, but sounds like they take quite a bit of experience to drive.

I do rent it out for autox. It was just rented for this last weekend with the GGC CCA at Marina. It is a blast to drive at the autox, the car just loves to drift and is very predictable.

$100 per day for autox and I will bring the car to the course.
