Hi, looking for help with a 2008 318 E90 start stop issue please. Since having the car the function has never worked correctly.
As I understand it, to engage a stop, it's stop car, clutch in, select neutral and cuts out...... Correct? Mine I accidentally got to engage when I stalled it! So in short I stop car, car in gear, lift clutch and cuts out. To restart I then select neutral and engine starts.... Then obviously go into 1st to continue the journey. Anyone experienced this? Battery is getting replaced tomorrow although I've not experienced any other loss of features. I know start stop devides opinion but it's just doing my head in now so want it to work out of principal!!!!! |

Not sure if you have deliberately left out steps or if you're misinformed. The car will never auto stop with the clutch pressed down.
It should also never stop in gear. You should get clutch pedal travel sensor and zero gear sensor calibration checked |

There’s a number of factors that affect stop-start. The battery, the sensors that detect the gear and clutch position, the external temperature, and so on. Mine stopped working when my battery started playing up. I changed the battery and it works most days, except when it’s cold outside.

The vacuum sensor on the brake servo was what held up my old one.
Cold weather hindering it makes sense as it'll keep the engine running to maintain battery voltage, coolant temp, etc. |
