Identifying a whining noise
This afternoon I noticed a whine, more of a shril sound as I was breaking. It happened shortly after I went over a raised bump in the road. Over the last few hours I have isolated it to the following.
You can barely hear it outside the car, i.e. window down. It is audible when the car is braking It is audible when the car is idling and slowing (stick shift). No lights are on currently on the dash. It's definitely the front of the car, turning doesn't affect it. Car is a 2011, 328 xi, manual, 42K on the clock. |

Update on this one, which I will address when I return from my next road trip.
The sound appears only after driving for a while (10-20 miles). After initial start I encounter the end of my street within 20 seconds of leaving the driveway followed by a second red light stop 10-15 seconds after that. I have rarely heard the noise (ok over the last ten days, not once) in these two incidences. Any one with something that I don't look like the complete idiot to my mechanic with ideas, please share. |
