Question How to cut weather strip lower plastic lip in the windows?

Hey everyone,

I'm getting my 2011 3 series windows tinted. I've read a lot of people getting vertical scratches on their tinted windows.

I've also read that cutting the weather strip lower plastic lip in the windows will prevent the scratches.

Does anyone have a DIY pics/before & after of the cut plastic strip or steps on how to cut it?

Use moleskin instead. Maintains OEM functionality, but protects against scratches. Not expensive.

On non tinted glass these scratches are actually some sort of white compound that has a waxy feel.

I find it that it shows up mainly after raining.

I'm assuming that due to the hardness of this white compound scratches can be made on the tint.

Let us know if you find a solution other than the above mentioned mole skin.

FWIW, the moleskin is easy to apply and pretty cheap ($30ish?). It's essentially like a felt to protect the windows from the hard surface of the weather strip, without sacrificing it's function.

I'd much rather go that route than cutting anything, especially since the labour involved is probably very similar (and not really all that bad).
