Engine rattle around 2500-3000 rpm

Hi everyone!

I seem to have the signature "marbles in a can" sound coming from my engine from 2500 rpm to 3000rpm almost exactly. It does not happen all the time, but when it does, it's fairly loud. At first, I thought it was just the engine cover vibrating, but after getting some adhesive backed foam and sort of insulating it I found this was not the issue.

I recently did my oil pan gasket, and when I started it up for the first time, I thought I heard a faint version of this sound coming from the cam adjusting unit (part number 11377548388)

I guess my main questions, before I spend $300 on this, are:

1. Will this unit make those rattling sounds?

2. If this is not the right part, what could be?

Thanks
- Grant

Hmm I would save the $300 and get a diagnosis first. It could be lots of things :/

I would start with diagnostics to see if anything comes before replacing parts.

that sound usually has to do with some sort of chain tensioning.. oil pump or timing chain maybe

Ahhhh shoot... I just did the oil pan gasket last week.

I did have an incident when I did my oil filter housing seal and drove on nearly no oil, might that have any influence on the problem?
