Engine rattle around 2500-3000 rpm
Hi everyone!
I seem to have the signature "marbles in a can" sound coming from my engine from 2500 rpm to 3000rpm almost exactly. It does not happen all the time, but when it does, it's fairly loud. At first, I thought it was just the engine cover vibrating, but after getting some adhesive backed foam and sort of insulating it I found this was not the issue. I recently did my oil pan gasket, and when I started it up for the first time, I thought I heard a faint version of this sound coming from the cam adjusting unit (part number 11377548388) I guess my main questions, before I spend $300 on this, are: 1. Will this unit make those rattling sounds? 2. If this is not the right part, what could be? Thanks - Grant |

I would start with diagnostics to see if anything comes before replacing parts.

that sound usually has to do with some sort of chain tensioning.. oil pump or timing chain maybe

I did have an incident when I did my oil filter housing seal and drove on nearly no oil, might that have any influence on the problem? |
