Coolant outlet hose broke need help asap

I did a ofhg and ofcg this weekend. Unfortunately the coolant outlet hose broke at the plastic fitting that goes on the engine(Part #11537541992) . The thing is I cant find the piece that broke off . Im thinking it went back into the hose and is sitting in the thermostat housing. I tilted it down to remove as much coolant hoping it would come out but no luck. I jacked up the car to see if I could unplug it at the housing but its too deep in there to be removed easily. I would have to remove the sway bar, pump and thermostat. Could I just cycle the pump with the hose off and see if the piece dumps out from the outlet hose ? Im pretty sure this is the direction the coolant moves but not sure. Any help is appreciated

Also Im replacing the broken piece with an aluminum fitting you can find on amazon . I bought it so I wouldnt have to remove the hose.

Check the belly pan first. That piece is quite prone to breaking, though it tends to break off a ring right at the o-ring groove. If a broken piece went into the coolant tube, you'll probably need to remove the hose to retrieve the piece.

I checked the pan desperately trying to find the missing piece of the puzzle , no luck . You dont think the pump would be strong enough to push it out while its cycling? I would be adding distilled water while its running into the container with a friend to stop it once its freed.

Well I managed to unclamp the hose by working near the wheel splash guard and moving a shield above the steering rack . I flushed water through it and still no piece. Either its not in there or its somehow wedged in thermostat . Still wondering if the direction of flow is going out from pump into thermostat into the pipe and into the engine. I would imagine so since its called the outlet pipe. Im gonna try to get a worm camera in there.

Well to rap this up I put my worm camera in the thermostat and it wasn't in there. Who knows where it went but as long as it's not going to be floating around my engine Im happy. It was a bitter sweet day.

To anyone in the future that needs to remove or swap the hose here's some tips. Find which way your worm clamp is facing. Mine was facing the engine , I used a 6mm with a swivel head and extensions. I could hit it near the wheel well and get to it after removing a shield over the steering rack(t25). Got it loose and went along the edges with a screwdriver. After I put it back on I made sure to clock the clamp facing the rear, making it easier for future use. Nothing else was removed

Newby to the forum. Thanks for the info, very useful. Wondering about that aluminum hose end at the engine side. How much was it? Where did you get it? I bought the entire hose with fitting, but I'm considering just using the upper fitting you mentioned and leaving the hose in place. On the other hand, if you recommend that I replace the whole hose, how hard is it to remove that shield over the steering rack and reach in there to the clamp? Did you take the wheel off? I tried to see the hose while attempting a roadside repair, and gave up, figuring steering components would have to be unattached. Any further advice or links would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!

I decided to by the aluminum fitting on Amazon. I will be returning the full hose with plastic fitting. Did you ever find out what direction that water flows and whether or not the broken piece would be flushed out?

If the hose looks good, crack and stress free i wouldnt worry about it. I was doing a single conversion and broke my plastic oe outlet and picked this one up. Cheaper and dont have to worry about it failing or cracking. It fits very snugly too so apply some spit or wd40 when putting it in so it doesnt rip the o-ring. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F253020416033

Same thing just happened to me the end of the flange disappeared into that hose. What’s your opinions find it or send it.

Then replace either the flange or a hose with a flange (two types, one with a plastic flange the other with an aluminum flange). But clean out the debris.
