Washing a black car is ridiculous!

I've given up and i'm just tired of stressing over it, washing a black car without getting fine line scratches or swirls is almost unavoidable. No matter how careful I am with washing, if i take one of those LED flashlights and beam it on my car i'll end up seeing new fine lines or swirls on my car. Of course, they can't be seen by the naked eye (you have to use a light) it still pisses me off.

Everyone is always talking about you need the "right technique" etc, that's true it minimizes it a lot....but you'll bound to get some on a black car because you're touching it.

I envy everyone who didn't get a black car

I have a jet black and a sapphire black. I've given up. I mean, the other colors have it also but not as visible as black ones.

^^I did that exact thing and worked my ass off/practiced/used advice/printouts/etc....but to no avail.....of course it could be cause I suck.

I gave up and sold everything. Then hired two other "professionals" since and the same result with both....

+1 For this reason I miss my space grey 328...when i was looking for a cpo 335 i settled on the bsm over aw. Im glad i did but being ocd its tough on me. although a few swirl marks are a small price to pay for what happens when I push the pedal down.

Pretty sure I'll not buy another black bimmer.

I'd buy black again but I'd very EXTREMELY careful with how I wash it/dry it from the beginning.

Use a Speed shine product after washing to make the fine swirls disappear. Makes a world of difference!

I'm done with black. So much work! That being said, my black TBSS had no swirl marks on it. You've got to use a product like Zaino polishes instead of wax. Throw me $300 and I WILL get them out. ;-)

Yeah, Space Gray was not my #1 choice when I bought my ca, but the color has grown on me especially coming from a dark green Mazda. The Gray is so much easier to maintain than my Mazda was, I can't imagine dealing with black.

although my car isn't black, it is dark enough where minute scratches drive me mad. i use a spray on wax regularly(like 1 out of 3-4 washes) and it really helps hide the scratches. and i do an old fashioned wax 2-3 times a year.

after a wash i just use a car squeegee and towel dry, then a quick spray and wipe. pretty easy and painless with great results! although with black ymmv!

I once went black, I'll never go back. I like perfection and black constantly shows me how imperfect a vehicle is

I know my car has surface scratches and swirls, I just don't want to see it everyday!

I just washed my BSM yesterday and love it when it is clean, but that lasts 1 day. Someone on here said "Black isn't a color, it is a full time job", . Not sure I would change it though.
