Rear brake pads

Hi,

Dealer wants 200 plus for rear brake pads.
I just find that quite expensive. non-OEM go for way less.
Are the OEM "THAT" good?
What are my other choices?
Rotors are fine, just need pads.

Thank you.

Is that parts+labour or just parts?

Other choices? The same OEM pads from somewhere like autopartsway.ca or bimmerspecialist.ca. Same pads - a fraction of the price.

OEM are usually Textar, Jurid, Pagid. My E39 came from the factory with Textar fronts and Jurid rears. I *think* my E90 had Textars front and rear. I used Textars on all brake jobs I DIYed.

Do you live in a salty area of Canada? You might want to do the rotors too.

$200 for OEM pads alone seems rather high, even for Canada.

Thank you Tom,
i thought so too.
i can change all 4 rotors and pads for less than 200 on an american vehicle.
this is just stupid. i will look for aftermarket parts.

Hawk Hps - My Vote

GET HAWK HPS --- not HP's
.
. GOOD STOPPING AND MUCH LESS DUST -- JUST MAKE SURE THE ARE INSTALLED WITH BRAKE QUIET & SYN GREASE ON CALIPIER EARS -- TO ELIMINATE SQUEAL -- that many complain about -- you you will be happy.
BUT I WOULD ALSO CHANGE ROTORS with Zimmerman.
.
.
BUT -- if your fronts are OEM -- you will soon want to change them as well to HPS .

BMW says to replace rotors at same time as pads. Quite honestly rotors are actually fairly affordable. You might get half way through the life of the new pads at best if your lucky before rotors go all the way, but now your messing with brakes twice as often as needed. In addition their is no sensor to tell you your rotors are shot. Finally why mess with one of the most important parts of your car just to save a few bucks.

I think OEM rear pads are about $90 at Tischer.

Did hawk hps front and rear pads and finished bed-in tonight. they left film on the rotors as hawk says they will.

still can't tell if they brake better than the oem. i had no problems stopping with the oem, just were getting worn.

The rotors are not really affordable where i am, plus they are quite fine so will leave them for now.
by the way, hawk brakes come with the sensors.
when someone is replacing pads i think they must have the sensors as these sensors WILL brake during removal, very fragile.

Thank you.
