WTF? This has been the same problem since the e36 days.. they always revised the WP to metal impellers in the later years.. why not do it right from the start.. specially after 3 generations

Did you get the temp sensor replaced?

So I just got mine fixed and it was "cheaper" that I was quoted. Water Pump, Bolt, Coolant and Temp Sensor.

I paid about $1350 in total

Error Code: 3792 and 377A

Some times you get a water pump problems from a poor battery. The water pump needs a strong battery.

I never heard of the water pump going because of a week battery. I left my car for almost 2 months without disconnecting the wires and when i started my far 2 months later The battery was almost dead. I ran the car for 2 3 weeks and then I had my car overheat on the highway and all that pretty stuff. Now my car is in winter storage and after hearing that it could be the battery I'm wondering if I don't even need a water pump but just a battery. Some info would be great before I order my pump online. Free bump

Found intermittant voltage at the WP connector. Traced back the positive power wires and found the charging block / distribution block in the engine bay melted. Replaced and codes gone.

On ebay they are higher price... But had a phone number listed, so I called them.... And he cut me a break for no ebay fees.

Phone: 1-855-822-0479
crm@importpartsdepot.com
Paid: $393.29 for Waterpump and TStat.
Insist on BEHR brand TStat.

Also, bolts are eBay item number:
3 of them: 161253701611.
BMW part #: 11517602123
For $11.13.

DN
Sorry, just under $405 delivered.

Please keep in mind:
1) OEM water pump bolts.... Can not be reused.
2) the new ones I listed are not aluminum and can be reused.
3) the eBay seller I listed for the water pump ships 32mm bolts (OEM Size).... But for new pump you need 26mm.... Hence why I just bought elsewhere.
4) Insist on BEHR brand TStat.... I had fitment and quality issues with Hamman brand. (both are OEM)

DN
PS: if you can help a brother out...I bought 3 extra bolts not knowing that the new bolts can be reused.
11.00 USD shipped they are yours.
Canada or USA.

why do I have an extra set?....I had a hamman brand Tstat first which gave fault codes....Tstat jam error.....the seller shipped me a Behr brand and has worked flawlessly.
but since I was redoing the only job, I bought the cheap bolts not knowing that the new ones were re-useable....they re metal....not aluminum.

It should be just under $1000 from dealer. We get 20% discount on parts and labour I believe is about 4-5hrs. $900-1000 tax in is normal and reasonable because of how much work it is.

Well, bringing this old thread back because I am suspecting my 2011 e92 is also having issue with water pump, for I have got the Overheat yellow warning a couple times. And now, with my JB4 dissabled, I am reading a HEX code of "3792", however, my dealership said they don't have that as a valid code, and indeed it doesn't map to any DTC code (pXXXX). So, i'm wondering if this is the actual code?

Braisk, how did you get your "3792"? from jb4 or from your dealer?

Please help, Any input is appreciated.

If you've got the overheating warning several times, you don't need to pull the codes at this point. Replace the WP and TStat before you really cause some damage driving on an uncooled motor.

The thing is that my dealer needs to be able to pull the code in order to proceed and bill my extended warranty for it. But, the service rep kept reassuring me that the LIMP mode would protect the car from getting engine damage if the WP does fail completely? Is that true?

Now, it'd be pointless to bring the car in without a code to support it. So, i am kinda in a stupid state of mind - wishing the warning to come on so i can bring it in for service - completely insane!!

Not true at all. Total BS, that SA should be slapped. Reduced power/limp mode will reduce the load on the motor but you are still driving an engine that isn't receiving proper cooling. That's a disaster waiting to happen.

The DME should have the fault codes stored unless you cleared them.

A quick update : the code reappeared and they finally replaced both water pump and T-stat. The whole thing is closed to $1300 and luckily fully covered under my extended warranty. But i still need pay $200 for the materials and diagnostic fees.

I don't understand why you had to pay anything that's bs. Warranty is warranty and should cover everything especially if the diagnostic fee actually pulled codes.

I guess at least your car is good again. I have an 11' 335is and just hit 80k. I wonder if they have aluminum impellers or plastic - I almost don't want to find out lol :
