I am really mad at my car, the dealer, BMW, BMWNA, etc. I am in fact looking at buying a car to replace this german garbage.
I am really willing to give the blanking plates a chance, however my car has been diagnosed already with CBU. I am not ready to pay more than $4000 in cleaning fees as the dealer said today. Would blocking the EGR valve help reduce the CBU while running additives? |

Yea, that won't do anything. It may help the injection system last longer and stay cleaner, maybe even better fuel mileage. But the only way anything would get into the intake is through the EGR and by then it is already burned.
Have a meth injection kit installed and drive the car. It will clean itself. I am considering one just for that reason as well. |

I'm also getting a 45B7, which from my search relates to a temp sensor plausibility. After reset these three are coming back. So, with the tune we should be good to go.

Iaknown, my 2010 with 51k miles has been in the Dealer now for 3 weeks for the CBU. Found this thread after researching for possible fixes to this problem, now it seems like you have provided light at the end of the tunnel! I will PM you for my Off-road kit

No BMW is taking care of it but I was only about 2k outta warranty. My SA did tell me that they have another 335d in right now for the same thing and they are about $10k into that car. He definitely acknowledge an issue with them. On a side note my car has been in for close to a month now. Since 4/08. I am currently on my second loaner with no set complete date in site. Just curious. Has anyone tried to unplug or cut off electrical connection to EGR valve? Assuming default valve position should be closed if unpowered? SW is another option but would like to explore this possibility as well.

There are guys they have even tuned them out, but you still need a physical block off to avoid possible issues with cracked EGR coolers and hydrolocking the engine. Physical block off is the easiest to do, then tune it out.

Hi guys
Interesting read through this thread, seems to be all positives from removing the cooler. Someone whos had more experience with me than this may be able to help (im a new owner), but is there any reason we could just get 2 flanges laser cut to remove the EGR system? So instead of messing about with blocking plates (i apreciate some may need this as you may need to appear to have the system) you just pull the whole lot off and bolt on 2 new blocked flanges? Like this: Just wondering as i have access to a laser cutter so say, if someone could give me dimensions, i could draw it up in CAD and have some bits made. |

Yeah, but it looks like rerouting the coolant is basically one hose, and if this mod is being done then the owner has probably had bits coded before.
I just mention it as i have access to a laser cutter, so i could get bits made for myself pretty much for free and could also potentially get bits made for others too. |
