If you could buy another car with a reasonable budget, what would it be?

Assuming you keep the e90 in the stable.

Always on the look out for interesting cars. That said, living in nyc makes parking kind of a nightmare for 2 cars. We can dream though.

Since I’m going to be street parking the next car, I’ve been running through some ideas - all under a $4k budget:
  • Another bmw: clean E38, maybe a 6sp x5
  • Getting into camper build ideas: 4Runner, Sienna, Jeep GC
  • Stock vtec car yo: Honda prelude 5pd
  • Something comfortable: old Lexus sedan
  • Something vintage: Mercedes 200 series

Thoughts?

What would you buy.

I've been shopping around for a new daily myself. As much as I want to spend $6-12k on a car that will last, I can't seem to justify it. My current daily falls under your 'Stock vtec car yo' category, Accord coupe 5 speed 2.3 vtec.

I've narrowed my search down to a couple of cars: MkV GTI, E46 325/328/330

Nice. I should take a look at VWs, never really caught my interest in the past.

E46 prices seem to have bottomed, i.e. cheaper than e36s. Only think that worries me, and it’s significant, are the chassis crack concerns.

My everyday driver is a 2016 MINI Cooper S with a JB4 tune and JCW performance pack. It's pushing close to 300hp and weighs 2700lbs. It was cheap as hell, is super fun, and gets 32mpg.

Can't think of anything better. Mine was super low miles, so I paid in the mid teen's, but you can easily find a 2014-2015 F56S with miles in the 60's or so for 10K.

I picked up another car and got back into a f30 as my DD. E90 sits in the garage as it gets driven once a week

I had a e39 540i for a while...and then realized it was the same car. 6 speed, jet black, four door bmw with 300 factory horsepower, similar wheel base, length, and height. Even the same tire sizes.

For the 5-10k range, I'd love to pick up a slightly neglected e46 m3 -- sadly z4m's are still in the 25k range. Other solid choices in that price range would be a G35/7 coupe, unmolested 350Z or C5 vette -- don't think C6's are sub 10k yet.

3 gti
4 g35
5 350z

the last 2 i m not sure if you can get it for so low ....

I'm a big advocate of diversity of purpose and capability when owning multiple vehicles. I would love to have another fast passenger car, but it would overlap too much with my 335i. I own a beater pickup for hauling stuff, and my wife drives a Sienna to haul our three kids and all the accompanying crap. If I were to get rid of my e90 I'd want to get another quick passenger car. I'd like something with the B58 in it, but I'm not going to go into debt for it, so no go. A 987 Cayman for the right price would be great.

I want to get a Land Rover Discovery and LS swap it, and I would like a roadster (z3 is my favorite for styling, but I like the drivability of the Boxster better). I don't have the fundage for either of those things. My wife suggested I sell my e90 to fund a new project car, but I don't know if I can after all the work I've put into it, and how much fun I still have driving it. I might try to fix up a couple of nagging issues on the truck and sell it to buy the Disco, but it would need to be a running example in good cosmetic shape since I wouldn't have enough to do the swap right away. I don't think the roadster will ever happen.

Honestly, I sometimes have more fun driving it than the Ferrari.
