E90 Not Starting/Hand Saw Sound

Hey Guys,

I'm new here. This morning when I tried to start my car, it made a sound like a hand saw, and the car failed to start. I posted this earlier on another BMW forum and I wanted to see if you guys have any other opinions on diagnosing/repairing:

A little bit of details:

It has over 160k miles, it generally runs very well (I use it for my long work commute) and I've only had to change maybe five things since I got the car a couple of years ago.

Do you have a scanner? check coil cables and inspect coil and sparkplugs.

skip to 8:45, and sounds like yours without coils and sparkplugs,

To be honest, that sounds like the starter simply isn't engaging the flywheel.

The starter shaft is dirty or the starter spring is broken, from the noise of it.

Agree with those two above, sounds like starter is spinning but gear isn’t kicking out to flywheel

Starter is your issue. Replace, move on with life.
