Rollover protection fault - Airbag and seatbelt warning lights on as well.

The other day my car decided to throw up an Airbag and passenger seatbelt warning on the dash. Had the car scanned pretty much immediately and the specific error code is.... 9402 - Rollover Controller Internal Fault.

The warning and error popped up when the car was stationary, however the car had been jacked up and had the rear wheel off about 2 miles / 20mins beforehand.

Clearing the fault has been attempted by a non-BMW dealer tool but no luck, error will not clear and warnings on the dash are still there.

Any idea what might have caused this fault or how to clear/fix it??

"internal fault" suggests that theres an actual issue with the rollover controller, rather than an accidental deployment.

You'll probably need to replace the controller.

Replace the controller.. Wow.. It went kaput just like that?

Are these BMWs the most unreliable cars in the world? I've owned and driven cars for over 20 years and I've never read so many first hand experiences of random component faults, engine problems and recalls/service bulletins....

Nox sensors, injectors, hpfp, coilpacks, wheel plates, knocking noises from various parts of the engine, disa valves, vanos whatevers, etc etc etc.

Beginning to think the risks of owning this car outweighs the enjoyment.

You can probably point the blame at lead-free solder :P

The part was ridiculously expensive for a sensor... Something like 400 I think. Labour not much different. I had some other work done too, but basically it was a 800 job roughly. My warranty covered it fortunately.
