BMW E92 330D brake upgrade
Hi All,
I know this subject has been brought up more than once. I have 2010 e92 330d lci with 330mm brakes on the front. I am trying to debate which upgrade is best. A lot of feedback so far suggests upgrading pads, rotors, brake fluid and keep the set up. In my case I am running DOT 4 brake fluid, EBC yellow pads and EBC rotors. The only thing I haven't changed is brake lines. The brakes are ok for slow drive but hard stop's are not great. TBH I am happy with pads but not the rotors. So I am considering doing an upgrade. So far I can see 3 options. Upgrade to single piston 335D rotors and calipers with pads. 348x30mm upgrade from 330x24mm. Looks major enough. Anyone who done the upgrade is it all whats needed anything else to change? each caliper is about 120 squid. cheap enough as I still need rotors and pads and wear cable. So total will be around 400 ish squid. Next option is E82 Performance Brakes. 6 piston 338x26. Major difference is increase from 1 to 6 pistons. Again from my understanding I will need 1) Calipers (34 11 6 786 741 ,34 11 6 786 742) 2) Protection plates (34 10 6 780 216 , 34 10 6 780 215) 3) rotors, brake pads, wear sensor Again if anyone already completed it please comment if I am missing anything Lastly F30 Performance brakes. I haven't even considered it as its too expensive. Any feedback on e82 or 335D brakes. Will I need a different master brake cylinder for E82? Update from 06/11/2023 EBC yellow pads on front and back. Braided stainless steel lines. Zimmermann all round Millage done: Approx 200k~ miles Latelly I found that pads have plenty of meat however disks are shot.... At least I haven't managed to overheat them. My opinion overall: Price to performance has been great. What do you find lacking in the ebc rotors? (Looking at getting some is all)
What is it you feel you need from your current setup? More overall power,or is it fading over time ect? |

Brake Upgrade?
Hi There,
I have just done a complete replacement of rotors and pads on my 330d from EBC. They sell a complete package for our cars. I went with the 330mm rotors up front and 336mm on the rear. The only change I made was I went with the slotted and dimpled rotors and have seen an improvement on stopping power.There is debate on whether they make a difference or not, but in my opinion they seem to keep alot of dust off the rotor which allows for a more even application of pad.I dont have any problem pulling up from 200klm to a complete and confident stop. The whole set only cost me $700au included sensors.In my opinion I would not bother with an upgrade as these do the job just fine, Cheers |

styvy, I have upgraded the brakes on my e87 (6piston calipers) and my wife's e90. (335i single piston). The best option is upgrading to the 335i/d brake calipers and rotors. If you want looks, the 135i calipers or BMW performance calipers are the ones that look nice. If you want to stop, the 335 brakes are better for you. Both setups will bolt right on but you will need to trim the dust shield unless you buy the appropriate shield.

im pretty impressed with the stopping power of the 335d calipers on my 335d,,compared to the stopping power on my 330d,,less fade etc,,but im going to put red stuff pads in the 335d ..less fade and dust..and ive already bought zimmerman discs and yellow stuff pads for my 330d ,as its very bad for brake fade,,just a couple of high speed brakings and they are shot..not sure what discs and pads are already on my 335d or 330d as were on when i bought. and no invoices,,i wish folk would keep all that stuff as i do for next owner etc

Yeah I'm like that, I keep invoices and receipts for everything, even wiper blades and light bulbs! To me it makes a hell of a difference when selling or buying a car. It really fills me with confidence when I go to look at a car and am presented with a shit load of paperwork detailing the cars entire history. How often have you all gone to look at a car that has been described as having s full service history only to be presented with the service book with some stamps in it! That is NOT a full service history, any one can buy a rubber stamp off eBay or wherever and fill the service book with nice stamps. Nope - for me it has to be actual invoices and receipts.

1) Wear and tear. They are literally barely holding. The thickness is near min with just 1 year. I drive mostly on motorways hence not braking often I usually let the foot of accelerator. In regards to EBC Red in front they have at least 60-70% of pads left. 2) The power of the brake decreased quite a bit since new. |

Gents,
Another question. I am thinking of changing brake hoses. So far I am debating between: BMW standard ones Goodridge stainless steel: https://www.goodridge.co.uk/products...12761042649153 M-Tec ones https://www.mtecbrakes.com/mtec-perf...ake-hoses.html Any reviews or opinions on the ones to get? I never went aftermarket on hoses before hence I am wondering. Thanks, Styvy |

For both of my brake upgrades I stayed with the original hoses. They were still in good condition so they stayed on the car.
