help installing HPB 240W AEs
I just spent the better part of an hour failing to get the driver's side unit installed on my 335d. I don't think the light unit itself would be a problem. But the sheer size of the two outboard units and the weatherpack connector are a major issue. I simply cannot jam them into the housing anywhere, and still have enough room for the stock halogen bulb, much less the far larger LED module. The only thing that seems like might work is to forget about the weatherproof cap, and leave all the extra detritus hanging into the engine bay. That doesn't seem like the greatest idea.
Anybody installed these already and have some tips? |

These are the LEDs from Top Gear Solutions that have the mini cooling fans correct? I was about to purchase those tomorrow so I'm questioning the fitment now.

They fit fine just like any other offering. Just takes some patience and fiddling to sort out what goes in first and where.
I usually dip the back end (fan side) of the light in first. Then put the LED inside the orifice. After that I just lay anything else in the compartment. We've installed dozens locally without a hitch and sold 100's. |

Just installed the HPB 240W H8 angel eyes on my E90 LCI last night. Very happy with the outcome. The light is very bright and the distribution of light is perfectly even. The inner rings are super bright but the outer ones are dimmer, but that's to be expected due to the design of the E90 angel eyes optics so that is due to no fault of HPB.
However, the installation took me over 1.5 hours because I had such a hard time screwing the bulbs into the sockets. For the driver side, I had to remove the intake airbox but it still took me a very long time after that. For some reason it took a great deal of effort to turn the bulb to lock it in place. The design of the bulb with the square heatsink didn't allow much torque to be applied when turning it in such confined space. It was just a nightmare and I still can't believe I was able to get them in. So consider yourself warned if you're going to embark on this! Anyway, like I said above, the outcome is great so I quickly forgot about the pain of installation soon afterwards. I was also able to cramp the multiple outboard units into the headlight housing and shut the cap properly without issues. It's a tight fit but definitely doable. Unless LUX offers easier installation, I can't see how the HPB 240W can be beat for the money. I paid only $99 for the HPB bulbs as they were on sale (and still is at the time of this posting). |

For someone installing angel eyes for the first time, it's never as easy as it should be, as the concept is as easy as changing a light bulb, right? Haha
Once you become proficient and do it a few times it should take no more then 15 minutes for E92's who install at the top of the light. For all other vehicles that require access through the fender liner, there is a little more set up time. It's best to note the orientation the stock bulb came out, then remember that for the new bulbs, that will make lining up the 3 tabs a lot easier. Small hands is a plus! |

I would think the cap goes back on to protect everything from moisture and dust.

Keep in mind the E92 will look different from E90. The outer rings of the E90 don’t light up very well not because of the bulbs but due to the poor design of the light pipes inside.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread.. I'm currently trying to install these and have them lined up but can't seem to turn the bulb to lock it into place. They are supposed to turn and lock, right?

It should lock with a light twist. I had the same problem when I first tried to install. It was an orientation problem where the tabs didn't line up. Once you get it lined right it should lock no problem. The only tip I can give you is out the original bulb in and take it back out and line up the led bulb same way

Just make sure the orientation is correct. Not the factory bulb orientation of the tabs. Mimic that with HPB 240W H8 Angel Eyes.
It's about a 1/8-1/4 turn when it locks in. It will feel secure. Anything short of that is not installed correct - change the orientation. |

I think it's correct, the tabs and holes look like a T and they slide in when turned the right way, but it doesn't twist in either direction afterwards. It is much bigger than the OEM one which makes it hard. I actually have the headlight off of the car and still can't get it...

Also it is indeed difficult to fit the harness inside, but it fits and the lid does shut. I'll post a pic later of how I fit it. If anyone reading this is struggling, just walk away from it for a few and try again, it is possible. |
