How many quarts of oil do you use?
Hi all,
Changed my oil yesterday just like i have in the past and put 6 quarts in. My oil light is on asking me to add 1 quart. I have not had this happen to me before. How many quarts do you guys put back in on a fresh oil change??? I did jack the car on the drivers side so it would drain better, would that make a difference? |

Add more oil, you'll be fine. I usually keep a spare qt in the trunk storage space just in case. Typically burn/lose 1/2 to 3/4 qt per oil change cycle (6-7k miles)

If the computer says add +1 qt, just do that. It shows a bar when it is missing less than a quart (and you should not top-off until it gets back at +1qt). You should have filled with 7 qt I believe. It's all written in the owners manual btw .

Ill get that done today. I have never cracked open the manual, just search everything in here! I could never find a yes or no on how much and last time I did 6 and was fine until about 5k miles and had to add 1.
Ill add a Q tonight and be less stressed. Thanks everyone!!! |

Yup, and I just buy 5qt jugs of Mobil1 0W-40 from wallyworld and keep one in rotation because I'll only use a portion of it, so I'm only buying 5qt each time I need to do an oil change.

The dam oil sensor doesn't update immediately.
The dam oil sensor doesn't update immediately.
We are talking 30 minutes or more so I would add .5 and monitor it for several drives then add the rest if necessary. I have had my oil changed by three different people who all put in different amounts on put in 7.5 , 7.0 and 6.5. At 6.5 the graph showed not full immediately , at 7 the graph stayed at all the way full for three or 4 months . At 7.5 the graph stayed high for a year. I think 7 is the right amount based on this. |

I usually do about 6.5 and it gets right up to the max every time. I don't know what's up with the other .4 but there's some that stays in the oil filter housing.

7. Always. I also throw some gravel to clean up my carbon build up. Works great.

I put another quart in so 7 total. I changed it yesterday and have about 50 miles and it still said add 1. See what it says in the AM.
Odd thing is I did 6 last time and it was ok until about 5k miles. |

n52 & n54
both engines are 6.9 quarts capacity. 7 qts would probably be a safe bet.
