F1 2019: Monaco GP - Monte Carlo (May 26)

like they say.. "its like driving in the living room.."
great track, great atmosphere and a merciless barriers.. and yes even though i wont watch the race from my yacht that i dont even have yet..

i guess almost everyone knows that Senna took the pole position with the same car from Prost by 1.5 seconds.. its crazy margin over one lap and 2.7 seconds from 3rd car.. unfortunately there is no onboard lap of '88 Monaco GP qualifying.. but probably that was the ultimate one lap that man and machine harmony..

right before the last 10 laps in race, team was telling him to slow down and he hits the barriers..

I am no fan of the Monaco race. It is a complete snore fest. Hopefully something happens in the race to make it interesting to watch.

That's every F1 race. At least Monaco has nice scenery when you wake up from time to time.

The highlight of Monaco weekend is the qualifying.

This is why I keep pumping Formula E, at least the cars are equal and there's real strategy for it. F1 is great but Mercedes has blown everyone out of the water for the foreseeable future. Last year was the first competitive one in nearly 4 years and this year they could realistically run the entire season without losing a race. Hopefully next year, if not 2021 and the new engine regulations will be the next hope.

Crazy Max doesn’t drive crazy anymore, and Ferrari sucks. Spells a boring Monaco and a boring season. Bottas may make it interesting. But it’s Mercedes all weekend and all season.

I'm suspecting down to which portion of the track being repaved this year.
Monaco repave portion of the track to minimize the bumps each year, depending on which section. Some require to pick a specific braking point (e.g. Turn 1 and Turn 5).
A newly paved and greasy track might cause some drivers to be more nervous and cautious as well.

Quote:
Each year the Monaco government resurface at least one third of the streets used in the Grand Prix to minimise how bumpy the roads are for the racing cars.

Far from a snore fest. If you have ever been to track or follow F1 it is like passing someone on a hiking trail against a mountain with a width of one person.

Actually the season may get a little interesting if Mad Max can challenge for third place in championship. McClaren will poop their pants if Honda knocks off a Ferrari for third. With a strong car, Red Bull won’t go too much longer with Gasly. If they had another strong driver, they might even challenge Ferrari for 2nd in constructors. Then it would be some excitement for sure.

Obviously, but watching a GP in real life is always much more exciting.

I watched 2 GPs when it was still being held here, and it is a world away from watching it on telly.

Greetings from Nice! Yesterday I took my family to free practice 1 and 2. We sat opposite the swimming pool, with a good view of a short straight and two extremely quick corners. Great and relatively cheap seats with a big screen, the pits in the distance, and a panoramic view of Monaco. In person, the pace of an FI car through this section is mind boggling. Talk about millimeter perfect! Max takes these turns in the hairiest possible way, as far as I can tell, with a distinctive engine note as he exits the second turn. This is precisely where he crashed in free practice last year. I'm going to qualies tomorrow with a friend, but probably not the actual race. Just too dear.

Greetings from Gig Harbor!
Such awesome seats to watch FP....your description of millimeter perfect is....perfect; I'll NEVER forget the 08 race from Casino Square....the first 1/3 it rained....the second 1/3 a dry line was being established....the last 1/3 was FLAT-OUT....only one GP pilot sounded like he was flat through Casino Square....it was HAM....so close to the Armco that a sheet of paper wouldn't fit....it was surreal to see just how fast the cars were negotiating the corners....it just didn't seem possible; we were staying in Nice and took the train on race morning....it was unbelievable to see nearly 100,000 arrive on the Principality....we watched the Porsche Super Cup support race and the remaining Formula races....and then The Boys came out to play.

Hi,
I would love to watch this race from the terrace of one of the hotels or on one of the super yachts moored in the marina - in both cases sipping a Hendricks and tonic!
It’s an exciting race with the crashes and bashes - but overtaking seems virtually impossible.
The pit crews and strategists earn their keep this weekend!
Cheers
Steve

it looks like Leclerc dominating Vettel pretty badly in Monaco.. its clear after FP3..
Leclerc was 1st on FP3 though Mercs were looking like they re holding back a little..
