Remembering ROS stuffing HAM in turn 1 at Austria....

I really believe that the decision was incorrect and sets a bad precedent. I remember very well when drivers were injured and killed from wheel-to-wheel contact in F1 and other open wheel series. If people want to see a bunch of body rubbing while racing there is NASCAR and other tin-top racing around the globe. F1 and the rest of the open wheel feeder series' are not the place for this.

Great comment and I always appreciate your input!

Remember this? ROS drove literally straight into the corner and forced HAM to take evasive action to prevent a shunt-ending debacle...this was a clear example and egregious error on ROS's part.

VER did not enter the right hand turn at the normal point (more left) and entered the turn (more right or closer to the apex)....this is a VERY tight radius right hand turn....VER could not take the normal line into the turn because LEC was there, so it forced VER to be squeezed lower into the turn's apex, thus causing VER to have to "square-off" the turn a bit....food for thought.

as i ve said we ll continue seeing such moves in the future a lot..
for me this sort of blocking is really dangerous and should be penalized but 99% it doesnt..

and actually.. VET overtook HAM like this last year also.. by blocking and by breaking the other cars momentum.. in racing such things happen especially in slow corners.. not fan of it but its a part of the game..

Huh? He started 9th and would've easily had third right behind Leclerc if they hadn't f'd his pit stop.

This is F1 not beginner racing...and great racing from Lec and Ver. I'm glad they aren't following exact race school rules.

And did you see the Ferrari guy with the left rear wheel, almost get nailed by Bottas? Not VB’s fault, the guy was in a rush and ran wide. Still scary

Charles would have conceded the corner well before the wall.

I forget what ex-driver said this...but drivers know that there is now paved runoff on most tracks. They use this to their advantage when they are getting passed and hope for a review/penalty during or after the race. In the past they would have to concede the corner earlier or face the possibility of getting stuck in a gravel trap.

Hamilton dropped back because of cooling issues. Apparently the two Mercs had to lift and coast for around 400m per lap.

The issue that highlighted Vettel's lack of pace, is that he was slower on new softs than Verstappen on hard tyres.

I remember it well. Not the same. Compare the lap the incident happened to the lap before. The cars were positioned similarly at on both laps under braking and VER did not lock up. It was a decision to place the car there and deny racing room along with the bump of the Ferrari on exit.

Again, I watched this type of racing in the 90's and early 2000's. I'm not a fan.

I was waiting for VER and LEC to take each other out and watch the two MB finish 1/2 again. At least that didn't happen.

Ha! I had the same thought. I figured there was at least at 50% chance of the happening. Good job to both of them for racing hard, but not (too) reckless.

If Bottas stays with Merc next year, I vote for Esteban Ocon to take Gasly's seat. Max and Esteban in the RB would be great to watch I suspect.

Found it interesting that the Harry Potter looking dude that runs Ferrari agreed it was a good move in the post race interview. His argument is that under present rules Verstappen caused a collision and forced leclerc off track - and then also agreed that the rules need to be changed.

I do not agree that Verstappen caused a collision - I would argue that leclerc caused it. With the present rules the drivers know that there is a good chance of getting a penalty if someone touches them when attempting to pass. It was Verstappen's corner and he closed the door on leclerc. Leclerc didn't have anything to lose staying in the corner because of the run off and the chance that a touch & penalty might save him. If there was a wall there he sure as heck would have conceded the corner.

I can't see that ever happening, especially not after what happened in Brazil. Also, Ocon is a Merc driver, and if RB decide to sign him, they would want him for a long period.

I think RB should rather give Albon a chance, he is really doing a good job.

Yeah I think it's a long shot too, but I think there's a quote out there from Toto saying that Esteban is a great driver and doesn't want to be responsible for his lack of time in F1. Or something like that. He essentially hinted that letting him go might be something that Merc might need to do in order progress Esteban's career.
