328i 3.0L Fuel Mileage

Hi All,

Just picked up my 2013 328i coupe which still has the 3.0l inline 6. I was not expecting to only get 17-18mpg combined driving. I am not driving hard, letting the car shift at about 2k rpm. Just wondering what others are getting in their inline 6s, non-turbo.

Sorry if this is already a topic, I tried searching but could not find it.

Thanks!

I have had many, many, E92 and E90 328 x-drive loaners over the years, and that was what I always got, in my particular situation, which is some highway, and mostly stop/go, to work. My 335i RWD gets 21.7 under the same conditions. To contrast, I drove a F30 328i x drive for over 3 mos., and that got 25.x under the same conditions (a lot of ECO PRO with A$$ enabled). Reliable? somewhat. Valid? I think so, I've been doing this commute for 6 years....

If it makes you feel better, get on the highway, speed up to 73 mph or so, set the cruise, reset the mpg computer, and drive 50 miles on cruise...you will likely see your mpgs go into the low 30's...)

I get around the same MPG as well for a 2011 328 x-drive, with a good mix of city/highway/traffic driving. Pretty bad gas mileage for a non-performance car. I also did a couple weeks of 87 octane vs. 93 octane. No noticable difference in mpg.

must be a lot of stop and go city driving - I average about 22-25, well over 30 on highway trips.

I was getting 21-25 on average before I did catless headers, now I'm getting about 17-19, but I did get 31 on a 3 hour trip coming back from the mountains (downhill).

I think we're all in agreement, to remove the variables, see what she does on the highway after some steady driving....likely to be over 30....

Steady driving (cruise locked on either 75 or 77) on rolling hill interstate with a 2007 328xi touring... 29 - 32 mpg.

Been doing the same commute for almost 3 years now. The only variation I get is because of tires and / or air pressure.

Same here as it only goes down to 18 in heavy traffic and/or snow. Mine is MT, but is the heavier wagon and has averaged a true (calculated) 24.1 mpg over 6 years and about 45,000 miles. My driving is mostly suburban and highway, generally in light traffic. A/C use seems to cost about 1-2 mpg and the OBC mpg readout is almost 3% optimistic.

I get about 15-16 mpg in the city as well which does not really bother me as it is stop and go city driving..not to mention Boston has so many freaking traffic lights.

I'm getting 21.2mpg with my 09' 328iX E92

Combined driving, 27mi roundtrip/day to work, use mostly D with a leetle DS every once and a while, AA Tune, 93 octane, Euro Intake, BMW PE, 193M Staggered wheel/tire setup, no A/C - windows open

On a long trip right, after mpg reset, @ steady 75-80mph - got 28.7mpg

18-20 MPG or 13-11 L/100km in Toronto traffic so what you're getting doesn't seem unusual.

I have an '07 MT E90 328xi with 60k miles.

City driving: 17.8mpg
Highway only (70-80mph): 27.7mpg
My average is 20.8mpg

Keep in mind the NA 3.0 inline-6 is not direct injection, it won't be as efficient.

If you have an xdrive you will see lower numbers than RWD cars. But I get around 24 combined with rwd

What is the 6mt revs at 80? I get around 32-33 with my 28 but it's rwd. Does xdrive make that much of a difference?

You can get more you just have to really baby it. Coast a lot, avoid braking, turn the engine off at stoplights.

our E91 is xdrive (and 6mt) and it gets about the same mileage as my RWD - maybe 1mpg difference. probably due to my lead foot - I doubt my wife hits 7200rpm as she crests the on-ramp every morning.

AT's can suck it though.

Sounds about right, that's what my E46 gets with the 3.0 straight six M54. My driving conditions are city and highway mixed. My average combined is 21 mpg but recently has been 18-19mpg with the a/c always running.

2010 RWD here. I've got a 80% highway/20% stop-go commute. I tend to romp on it during the 20 and stay in sixth about 75mph for the 80. I average about 23.
