Lol, the passenger mirror stopped doing its dipped trick and also the bolster on my seat has started to come apart, apart from that its been brilliant!!

Yes, that would definitely remove "safe" status.
The 2 golden rules with M badges and to avoid clown status:

If it came out of the factory with them on - they're fine!
You can take away badges, but you cannot add!

Can I ask a question (being a newb ) - be gentle with me

I totally get the utter clownage on some of these cars and get why you would look a nob for putting say an M3 badge on a non-M3, 3-series. Why is it frowned upon though to have just the M-badge on a genuine M-sport car? It doesn't make sense to me???

If it doesn't come with an ///M badge on it from the factory, then adding one is clownage. There are no ifs, buts or whys. It just is.
