330d remapped

I have bought a 2006 manual 330d E91 that has been remapped alledgedly

It certainly feels quick enough

If I accelerate hard in 3rd gear (within the speed limit of course) i get black smoke

If the car still has its dpf fitted can a bad map cause this or do I need to assume that the dpf has been removed

Many thanks

If it's a 2006 car it may not have a DPF. A guy where I work has a 2006 320d and that doesn't have a DPF.

News to me if it's not supposed to be fitted with a DPF, but I could be wrong...

My mrs 120d is a 2006 and that doesn't have a dpf as bmw didn't introduce them into the smaller capacity engines until 2007. However, from what I've just been reading the 2.0 X3 had a dpf fitted from mid 2005, 330d, 525d, 530d & X3 3.0 from early 2005, so based on that yours should have one fitted.

Just found this on the net:

330D / 530D / X3 3.0 – From Early 2005

325D – All Models have a DPF Fitted

525D – From Early 2005

X3 2.0 – From Mid Year 2005

320D – From 2007 (early 163bhp versions did not have a DPF)

Rikcougar if you are getting black smoke on acceleration your DPF must have been removed.

you should not be getting black smoke regardless of a dpf missing or not,,,could be a poor calibrated map,,try and get car to bwchiptune,,he can read the map and either fix it or new map or fix whatever is wrong with your car,,could be loads of things not just a poor map..black smoke is usually a boost leak or unburnt fuel

2006 330d manual 142k.
Do you get black smoke every time you boot it?
I only say this because, my exhaust tips used to be clean as a whistle, until i had DPF block issues 3yrs and 40k miles ago.
Car was doing only short trips for 6months, and DPF blocked up. Backpressure was at 65mb at idle whereas its normally below 10mb!
But then i fixed the issues which were Exhasut gas temp sensors, and did a regen. But it was so clogged up that the regen coated the exhaust with soot.
Then i deflapped it due to leaky swirl flaps amongst fixing some other bits and bobs at the same time like EGR Pressure converter, Red boost pipe, EGR clean, Inlet manifold decoke, and im sure that the exhaust is getting sootier.
Remapped 40k ago but now on 142k, i am getting 50mpg+ easily but i did notice at the last oil change (130k) that only 6litres came out whilst just under 8litres goes in.
I have never had to add any oil inbetween changes before but recently checked and after 12k miles i had to add 2.5litres.
It is not leaking any oil so must be burning it. Although 1 litres per around 5k miles is not excessive, i think this is coating the exhaust which i think gets spat out when giving it some throttle.
I noticed that it clears up somewhat after several boots!
I have also noticed that my mates Volvo V70 D3 which is newer and less miles has always had a black sooty exhaust and hes never had any dpf issues.
