I did the reset (initialise) with INPA today and it's cured my wiper woes!

I actually had the wipers go on to full speed at one point passing a truck, even on minimum sensitivity - something they've not done since I bought the car!

Many thanks Chesney!

When I went down the route of a new screen on my E91 the rain sensor was never the same again although I did discover one thing that might be of use to you.

The rain sensor on the E9x is SELF CALIBRATING!

You need to engage the wipers for a minimum of TEN passes at which point it should recalibrate itself.

Of course if the sensor is not refitted correctly then this isn't going to work but then again neither is plugging it into a computer either.
On my 4 year old 3 series, the sensor seems to have gone downhill all of a sudden in terms of sensitivity. So how would I exactly go about letting it recalibrate? In the rain, set it to the low or high speed, and let it go for a minute or so? That's it?

Others here though seem to have been successful with the reset, so I'm confused. Though I'd have to visit a dealer for that anyway...

My e90 has been my first experience with auto-sensing wipers, and coming from a car with only the low and high functions I was pretty exited about this feature. The first time driving in inclement weather I was so disappointed! As others experienced, I basically had to operate the wipers manually because I couldn't see if I waited for the auto wipers. I followed Chesney's instructions for the INPA initialize and it made a huge difference, thank you!

Glassman,

If you have the climate comfort windscreen on your E9x I presume there is no non-OEM alternative and they would have to fit BMW glass?

There is (if I've understood your question)

Windshield replaced, sensor TOO sensitive!

I got a huge crack in my windshield so it needed to be replaced. It was replaced with a non-OEM windshield and now the wipers are too active, too sensitive. The place I had the windshield replaced said that they have never heard of this problem before.

Does the sensor need to be recoded? Is there anything I should be doing?

In some instances, yes.

Can you see who the glass manufacturer is?
