Got a skunk under shed

Have a first world problem here: I have a skunk that has taken residence under my storage shed. He dug a hole going under which I can fill but then he would be trapped under. I know he is there because one morning I saw him walking in the yard and then go under and I can smell it a bit when I go in the shed.
Called animal control and they said to call a removal service and the guy charges $300 to set up a trap and remove.

I have been watching in the mornings for him and maybe I can run over to the hole and fill it while we walks around the yard.
So, I figure since we have so many smart people here this would be the place to come for advice.

I remember my Dad had the same issue.
He used to watch for it and sprayed it with the garden hose. (From a distance)

After a few times, it moved on.

Throw a bar of Irish Spring soap in the hole he made. Seriously. They hate the smell.

Skunks are nocturnal. Few hours before sundown, crumple newpapers and block the hole with it.

After the sun sets, check the hole every 15 mins and see if the newspaper has moved. If the newspaper has moved, here is your chance to fill the hole/block it with a big rock.

Skunks only know how to dig under things, they don't know how to jump over things.

If the skunk digs his way back under your shed, then fox urine might be the 2nd option. (seriously, no joke)

Whatever you do... Do NOT kill on premises.

We did in the garage. Fuckin smelled for a year. First 3 weeks or so we're the worst. Wanted to vomit every time we went in.

Parked the cars outside all summer.

Google how to make a trap (it's really really easy) and you can get that guy caught for pennies. On a related note my friend's dog got skunked TWICE in the past week.

I will tell you me and my dad's story. We had gophers, rabbits, and squirrels use our shed as a super highway. For about a year. My dad got tired of these varmints fucking the yard up. We first tried traps and poison, no go. Then one day, my dad said I'm going to smoke these bastards out. He bought the biggest smoke bombs i had ever seen and placed then in the holes. Few days later the critters returned. So more him then me, he decides to plant several smoke bombs in the holes, then fill the holes with dirt. Excellent, we leave to go inside and relax about 20 minutes go by, we here knocking on our door, which is weird since we have a doorbell. It's our neighbors gardner telling us to come to the side of the house. We get to the side of the house, and we have 20ft flames just raging and crackling and shit. The other Gardner is using our water hose to fight the fire, shit just got real. Took about 15 minutes to put the thing out. Long story short the only thing that was left after the fire was dirt and holes. The two mini bikes, 3 mountain bikes, lawnmower and weed Wacker were there as well, just the metal pieces of them that is.

Don't bury smoke bombs under a semi plastic shed. Go figure.

He can probably dig another hole. Did he hire contractors for the first one?

Knew there would be some good responses. I'm not going to attempt to kill him nor am I going to trap him and have to deal with taking him somewhere. The suburban neighborhood has skunks, coons and possums all over, I'm not big on killing natural wildlife.

Actually I thought of the smoke bomb thing...but don't know about that. The newspaper idea is good to see when he comes out. The Irish soap idea..well not sure if I would hit the right area....Maybe I should hire him to do some digging up of weeds in my back yard.

A 10/22 on the shoulder, Vick's under the nose, and a six-pack of beer while you wait.

Got my ass chewed by an elder for not taking one them out while deer hunting. Never made that mistake again.

Don't pay the guy! If I was in the area I'd do it for you, just get an air rifle from amazon... less than 100 bucks, easy, quiet, and take care of that sucker from a distance. Also you get to keep the gun for pest control. I've taken out snakes and a cayotes that ganged up on my German Shepard.

If you don't have it exterminated, then my advice is to move.

You really don't want to get into a 'pissing' contest with him....unless he decides to leave, or you remove him - the risk of an incident is very high. Depending on how close the shed sits to your house....it could be very bad for you.

I've had dogs that have tangled with skunks and receive the full treatment as punishment. They came running home and IT WAS TERRIBLE.

Hours and hours in tomato juice baths did little to alleviate the smell...

Isn't this a second and third-world problem too? Don't poor people have skunks living under their shacks?

No, in those locations the skunk is more affectionately referred to as dinner.

On a serious note don't trap the skunk unless you have a further plan on how to get rid of it without getting sprayed. Only shoot it in the head from a distance with an air rifle that is very quiet.

This article may help...
