I have done this retrofit in my car last year, it took me around 7 hours, nothing crazy though! Just stay organized and it's not hard at all. I can answer any questions you might have. Coding is honestly the hardest part of the entire retrofit

Arctic,
Did you happen to do a write up on the non-I drive to CIC wiring? Did you use a kit, or just buy the pieces and install? This is unfamiliar territory for me. Thanks for your patience. Cliff |

I didn't do a write up, in which case I should have :/ I was just excited to get everything installed. But I wired everything to the emulator. I didn't do the oem way to the fuse box behind the glove box. There is a pdf of 50 pages or so someone did when they did the retrofit that I followed. I found it on the forum somewhere, give it a look and see if you can locate it. If not I'll have to check if I still have it saved on my computer

I have factory cic in my 09 e92. I am planning on doing a combox retrofit and back up can retrofit. I will start researching and collecting parts soon. Currently studying the wirings. Might need help with coding though.

Are you purchasing the connectors and cables and building your own harness or purchasing one? I am thinking to go DIY harness route for my combox retrofit. I just received my combox, so I should be buying the connectors soon. I have a ton of pins from my retrofit on audi, I am sure I can use those pins, so not really purchasing the pins and wires. Only if I knew what all connectors I will need. The retrofit DIYs are scattered everywhere. |

trjn,
I just purchased the dash. I haven't purchased the com box yet. Would you be willing to share what you find on the DIY, connectors and pins? I am just starting this process. If you wanted to assemble 2 cables I would be willing to pay for your time on the 2d cable... |

My ccc is dying. I would like some guidance on coding the new CIC if someone has done it.

Since, this thread has multiple people trying to accomplish the retrofit I will put my findings here.
From a little bit of reading I was able to find the following and have following questions: 1. Absolutely need the latest or at least C16 version of CIC software. Mine is definitely older than that firmware. I read C16 version allows to retrofit combox without the FSC code. Anyone know who can update the CIC software locally to C16 version. I would like to update it to that particular version and not pay for FSC code if thats an option. I need to update my CIC anyway to get the new (2017) maps loaded via glovebox USB instead of DVDs. FWIW, the combox I bought has the manufacture date from 2015. 2. If your car has TCU and MULF then you will need two kufatec connectors to one 26 pin connector harness to make it reversible/plug and play. Or you will need to remove the pins from the originals and insert it in the 26 pin connector that will go in to the combox. I also read, this method may end up with a bit too short of wire length and not work. I see kufatech connectors for $18 each on ebay and 26 pin connector and the casing for about $20 total in ecstuning. Also, you will need MOST terminator loop, thats about $20 in ecstuning as well. I am planning on making a harness. In my case: I have factory CIC with TCU and MULF2, so I will be purchasing two kufatech connectors and 26 pin connector. 1 kufatech connector(TCU)+1 kufatech connector(MULF)---> 26 pin connector (combox) 1 MOST loop terminator to cover the MOST connector. What other wires/adapters will I need? I might do rear view camera and/or PDC retrofit at the same time. So, looking into those as well. I think I can do the rear view camera retrofit, but dont know how it will impact the combox retrofit coding. Each car is different, so you will need to check your car and see what all devices you have and gather the connectors accordingly. 1. no CCC/CIC to combox: you will need dash, screen, CIC unit, controller knob, trim piece to fit controller knob, combox, emulator, associated wiring. 2. CCC to CIC + combox: you will need everything from above minus dash. 3. CIC to combox: combox, associated wiring. * All of the above will require coding and software updates as needed. actually you don't need to buy kufatech adapters at all if you know how to disassemble connector and remove pins and how to read schemes in Rheingold and on forums

The retrofits in my e46 were really easy to revert, but audi was a different beast. Plus, I prefer keeping the stock wiring intact, in case I have to do any debugging. Plus I feel having adapters saves a lot of time and frustration, because you have a flexibility of building the harness on the bench and plug and play. PS: May be because my audi was a bastard 2005.5 where half the wiring was from 2004 model and half from 2006. My desktop is still littered with all the wiring diagrams I went through to repin the connectors. I retrofitted, bixenos, auto headlight, memory seats and mirrors, coming home leaving home lights, DRLs, etc. By the time it was time to sell the car, I couldnt keep track of all the re-pins I did progressively on the same connectors. I tried to remove my retrofits, failed miserably and sold the car with all the retrofits intact. Dont want to end up in the same situation |
