Shaking Noise heard when clutch disengaged
So i've noticed in the past week that there is a strange shaking noise heard from inside the cabin (and outside if you listen closely) it sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the engine bay, the shifter even vibrates more; but yeah it goes away when i press the clutch pedal in....anyone else have this problem?
Thanks BaM |

Possibly the throw out bearing. Common issue since the E36 and E46. I had clattering noise on my 335i and dealer took care of it under warranty at like 20K miles.

It may be common, but it's not normal. Most mechanics predict this to be a pilot bearing or input shaft. The throwout bearing would make noise when clutch is disengaged (pedal pushed). I had this problem and brought my car in yesterday since warranty is up in a few months. They say it needs new clutch kit and tranny. No doubt that replacing everything will fix the problem, but it won't solve the mystery. Guess I don't care if it's covered.

Dealer didn't replace the clutch, just transmission. sound is back in less than 200 miles. Oh well. I'll bring it back when it gets really loud again. maybe they will do more than "listen with a stethoscope" to diagnose the problem next time. Or maybe they will just keep putting in new transmissions. Every trip to the dealer is more and more of an exercise in stupidity.

My car has done it since it was new... never even phased me. Just figured it was normal clutch chatter. If I can get a new tranny out of it though I might bring it up next time lol

quite normal --
its your Getrag 6spd gear box making noise at idle... sounds like a low rumbling noise at idle .. if youre in a covered parking area -- near a wall, its pretty pronounced.. i usually hear the noise when I'm in the drive-thru at Del Taco-- |
