Coding Success in Hong Kong!
After a great team effort from a bunch of forum members, we coded the last of 5 cars on Sunday to successfully run LCI tail lights error-free without purchasing the HK$2,500 the FRM3 module! It took a fair bit of time and effort to set up the laptop remotely and purchase the right hardware from the States, but once we were up and running it took less than 20 minutes per car!
The coder added a few extra features to our cars as a bonus, and I just want to share the love! I will post a video eventually, except my car is hanging out at the body shop for 4 weeks getting repainted Lambo Balloon White Here's a list of things we can get done to our E9x's. Since I have everything set up now, it may as well be made available to everyone in HK. PM me if you're interested in getting hooked up. Restraint: - Turn off seatbelt chime for driver, passenger or both. You will still get a little red seatbelt light. Navigation / iDrive: - Disable iDrive legal disclaimer on startup. - Enable DVD in Motion Car Access Related: - Folding and unfolding the mirrors with the keyfob. - Allow one touch operation of the driver's window while the door is open. - Allow remote opening/closing of motorized tailgates on X5, X6, 7 and GT series. Lighting Related: - Double blinking ("euro") emergency lights (2007.25+ only, this works only with the ignition on). - Turn off cold or hot monitoring for any lights (to remove errors for non-OEM equipment such as LED or HID lights, LCI retrofits. - Fog lights stay on with high beams or bi-xenon flashing. - Make the rear fog lights work in tandem with brake lights. Abnormally-bright brake lights! - Retrofitting LCI taillights on pre-LCI. Get rid of errors and fast blinkers. - disable angel eye dimming. The AE's will always be at 100%. -2010+ only. Turn on "Follow me home" lights from a keyfob, Cluster Related: - Disable “key in ignition” gong. - Add the digital speedometer to non-M cars (V=## mph) in addition to existing options - Remove the correction on digital speedometer, it'll show the "real" speed but the two speedometers will not match - Add instantaneous digital MPG to M cars in addition to existing options. - Turn on EffecientDynamics on cars with manual transmission. Tells you when to switch gears for optimal gas mileage (manual transmission, 2007+ only - Have the cluster backlight work at all times. -Adjust low gas warning on M3's from coming on at 1/8th of tank left instead of1/4th

It's all done remotely using teamviewer. I'm just running the software on a laptop and have the cable

Are you talking about making more power? Does your Z4 have the naturally aspirated inline 6? It might be hard to get much more horsepower out of it, but you can definitely improve throttle mapping with off-the-shelf products. I don't know too much about them, but I'm sure other people with non-turbocharged engines will be able to help you.

Also, for those of you wondering, there are a few codes that I think are a must have. These things will improve your day to day life with your car.
- Diable Seatbelt Chime - Fold/Unfold Mirrors with Key Fob - Double Blink Euro Hazards - Allow one touch opening and closing of windows when door is open - Enable Video in Motion (If your car is equipped with navigation system)

Laguna...
Yep more power would be great, but i think 10-20 HP is about the max achievable. Throttle response and mapping at the same time would be great. Cold air intake maybe gets another 8-10HP. These are the options id like to do, but finding anyone with experience or not dodgy to do it in hk is seeming tough. |

Coding & Retrofits in Hong Kong
Hey I'm new to the forum and I just picked up a 2nd hand Z4 E89 sDrive23i in HK. I know this is the E90 forum but the Z4 Asia forum is too quiet and there seem to be a bunch of Z4 owners over here. :-)
Too new to create threads so apologies if this is I'm looking to retrofit BT & USB since no-one installs it in new HK cars If you have coding sorted do you also have experience with retrofits? I'm chatting to Patryk@BimmerTech via email who can source the parts, but I'm not to confident in installing/coding. I took a look at removing the trunk lining but there is the roof mechanism in the way and no-one seems to have a DIY for the Z4 E89 yet. Otherwise I'm looking for a good BMW audio guy in HK that can do this kind of stuff. Any BMW meets in HK? Would be great to meet some more car enthusiasts over here. |

USB = aux for iPod, iPhone etc. (6FL option) BMW want $15k HKD for the parts for both plus > $10k for installation. BimmerTech or BimmerNav have the supposedly genuine BMW parts for less for self install, but they haven't clarified yet what parts they are or what is involved in a Z4 install. I guess they're protective because they don't want folks doing it themselves... But I'm not inclined to take a leap of faith with that kind of cash. Love the Lamborghini Balloon white btw, would love to respray the Z4. Couldn't find one in the right colour at the right price in the right timeframe. Maybe if it ever gets a prang :-) |
