Great idea. The cup holders in the E9x really suck. I never use mine.

So it's just a matter of removing the trim (and taking out the cup holders, of course) and wrapping it in whatever material that you want?

It is to a point. The only hang-ups are that you must laminate the plastic strip with something to block the holes. I used a thin piece of semi flexible vinyl (like the siding on a house) cut and sanded to fit the shape.

The other consideration is that the clips which hold it in on the sides actually clip into the cup holder magazines, and with them removed there is nothing to clip there. Also removing the panel can snap the two blue push pin clips in the center, but they are $0.99 ea from tischer.

To mount and seal the finished assembly back in the space i used black automotive silicone, works great.

Though, as I said in the beginning I don't like the materiel I used, and when I re do it with alcantara I may also use a thinner laminating piece so it's more flush.

Too bad nobody makes a cup holder block off strip. Seems easy enough.

I know it's such a simple thing. Another cool idea I had was to have a piece of nice finished metal laser cut to fit the shape and then jam it in there, I think that would look neat.

Your friends must think your car is a prison. "Hold still and don't touch anything." Nice fab though

I was thinking about covering the holes with some cut up plastic from the folders that kids use for school. The plastic would sit on top of the holes, but since its so thin, once you wrap it with whatever material, I doubt you would be able to notice.

I saw one of your old threads where you wrapped your trim in leatherette. You said it matched the interior pretty well. Is that what you used to wrap the trim piece?

that looks like a base DX model thats not equipped with a cup holder lol. i love my cup holder, its in the a great location which is out of the way. i dont drive all initial D and my bf needs his medium sized drank.

honestly if you dont like that cup holder cause it be spillin then just dont use it. use the one you made by your ac vents. that vinyl really sticks out and leaves very little to be desired.

I'm convinced the cup holder assembly makes noise over rough bumps, and I dont use the things anyway.

Yeah, I wasnt happy with it on the trim either. It seemed like a good idea but it matches the dash too closely and just looks plain.

I was thinking the same thing about using school folder plastic to cover the holes, but I decided it needed to be stronger so that if someone poked a finger at that spot it would still feel solid.

Also when you're wrapping something, if there is a difference in the surface it really shows up alot under the wrap, so I think its best to use a solid lamination all the way across. I was thinking that a strip of bulk styrene from a model shoppe would work well and have a variety of thickness options. Maybe I'l try that for round II

I think with Alcantara it will look neat.

I couldn't imagine not having my cup holders, especially that on my journeys to the gym my shaker fits perfectly in it

Actually, a small redbull is about the only thing that fits perfectly.

Just fiberglass and sand, then you'll have a perfect base to wrap that you should be able to install back into the dash the same as it came out, no?
