Mass State Inspection software couldn't read updated DME/ECU :: new update
Went to get a sticker here outside of Boston today. Couldn't pass emissions because the inspection software wouldn't connect to the DME; while handheld readers had no problem connecting.
I had my DME/ECU upgraded last Oct to the newest software with the PPK tune. Pretty insane that this new inspection software might be trying to match stock software version to the vin # or something and not letting it connect because it's finding a different software version. Anyone else have this issue? Last edited by revengeismine; 10-04-2018 at 11:30 AM. |

Then tell him to fix it?
Or flash you back to stock so you can pass inspection and then flash back the PPK & Alpina. Given hand held readers work etc my guess is your ODB2 port is perfectly fine. So it's something in the flash he did. Please let everyone know how you get this resolved.

But I don't think there is anything he did wrong to fix though. It has to be the new Mass Inspection software looking for the original software. I hate this state with a passion. I have heard of someone in NJ with a Dinan tune who has a separate DME with the stock software loaded on it that he swaps in every year for his inspection. ![]() I was also flirting with the MHD route...back up the PPK software and flash back to stock using MHD and then flash back to PPK with the back up. This route is a pricier but I can do it at my own convenience. Haven't decided yet. I've got 7 weeks left to though lol Last edited by revengeismine; 09-12-2018 at 02:31 PM. |

That is annoying but at least you have a solution.
I pass fine with MHD and my single turbo n54.

A quick search turned up that someone else had a similar story with a tuned Merc a few months ago. Has anyone passed with MHD and one monitor not ready recently?? I'm up next month...

I did in April with the new machines. Just MHD loaded with my custom flash tune. Cat not ready. Passed with flying colors.

Honestly, I find it hard to believe they care what software numbers exist on the DMEs...

Update for you guys...I decided to make a call into the Vehicle Check Center (the guys at the MAC centers I believe work for the software developer for the new inspection system). Since I have already been flagged by the system for non communications to the DME, I didn't have really much to lose.
I was told in a round about way that the system matches your vin # to whatever software version was loaded on your vehicle at your last vehicle inspection; previous to the new system being installed. They said I should be able to flash back to that exact software version (which Joe from TGS graciously helped me with last night), that I would be able to pass on my next go around. If this is true (I will update this thread again once I get inspected again), this is a pretty invasive situation. Last edited by revengeismine; 10-04-2018 at 12:11 PM. |
